The year 2025 marked the deaths of several popular personalities. Towards the beginning of 2026, a new viral news claimed that rapper Chief Keef was shot in Chicago, leaving the internet in panic. The rumours further alleged that the drill music pioneer was attacked while he was filming a music video in the O' Block neighborhood, which left him on life support. Soon, his fans took to social media to express their concern over the issue. Some even suggested that the rapper was shot multiple times in the face, creating widespread fear. Meanwhile, an official reaction to the incident has clarified the matter.

Was Chief Keef shot in Chicago?

According to social media rumours, several entertainment outlets tried to verify the reports related to Chief Keef on social media. But according to TMZ and Complex, no police record, hospital confirmation, or official statements testified that Chief Keef was shot in Chicago. In fact, the speculation reached new heights after the viral posts alleged that the 30-year-old artist was on life support after being shot six times. As per one viral post: 

"Chief Keef shot 6x in his face, how tf he gonna survive that?"

Although many fans believed the claim and discussed the federal authorities' investigation of the matter, no reliable source confirmed that Chief Keef was injured. Amid the confusion, Chief Keef's manager, Idris Dykes shut down the claims and revealed the truth to HipHopDX. In his words: 

"He's not on life support. He hasn't been in Chicago in two years."

Where did the shooting rumours come from? 

According to some outlets, the false reports originated on social media, revealing that Chief Keef had returned to his old neighborhood of O'Block (Parkway Gardens) to film a music video. In turn, he was allegedly targeted during the filming. As per XXL Magazine, the rumours gained traction largely due to the rapper's connection to Chicago's South Side and his connection with O'Block, a neighbourhood frequently linked to violence in mainstream media. However, the sources close to the rapper mentioned that Chief Keef has been in LA for several years now, and he had intentionally distanced himself from Chicago due to legal and safety concerns.

Chief Keef, born in 995, is one of the leading figures of Chicago's drill rap movement. He rose to fame in 2012 at the age of 16 with his breakout hit, I Don't Like, which was later remixed by Kanye West. Additionally, his debut album, Finally Rich, featured popular songs such as Love Sosa, which shapes his aggressive, street-inspired sound in modern hip-hop.
