'Dhurandhar' is streaming on Netflix, and the viewers are yet again in awe of the movie. Amid this, let's know about Chaudhary Aslam and how he was killed. Sanjay Dutt played his role in the film!
Aditya Dhar's movie, Dhurandhar, has been streaming on OTT giant Netflix since January 30, 2026. The spy-thriller has become one of the much-loved blockbusters of 2025, featuring five top actors, including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R. Madhavan. There has been a whole lot of gossip around the movie since the time it was announced, while some are saying that it is based purely on real-life events, others deny it. Aditya Dhar had revealed that the characters were inspired by the real life characters.
The movie also showed some of the real events like the 1999 IC-814 hijacking, the 2001 Parliament attack, Pakistan's alleged acquisition of Indian currency printing plates, and the 2008 Mumbai 26/11 terror attacks, which left people feeling every second of the movie through their nerves. The movie has grossed more than Rs. 1000 crore at the domestic box office after being released on December 5, 2025. One of the characters was Sanjay Dutt, who grabbed a whole lot of attention. Sanjay Dutt played the role of 'Chaudhary Aslam' in the movie, Dhurandhar.
In the movie, Sanjay Dutt was seen as an encounter specialist, who, along with 'Hamza', killed 'Rehman Dakait'. Well, people had a question whether Chaudhary Aslam, whose role was played by Sanjay Dutt, was a good cop or a bad cop. It was the Sindh Police Deputy Inspector General, who was once mentored under Chaudhary Aslam. He, during the time the movie was released, shared some information about the Pakistani police officer.
In an interview with Digi Tales, Sindh Police DIG Omar Shahid Hamid shared that his mentor, Chaudhary Aslam, was a 'crime fighter'. He refused comment or defend the debates about Chaudhary Aslam. While some thought he was a good cop, others disagreed with his tactics. As per the DIG, while other police officers tried to side with one gang or the other gang, not to be looked like an enemy, there came Chaudhary Aslam, who only cared about bringing peace among the citizens, thus he didn't side with one or the other. The DIG revealed:
"But I will say this, for a police officer to take on, one after another, and often at the same time, the biggest menaces to law and order and criminality in the 1990s, which was the MQM’s militant arm at the time, and then, in the early 2000s, the Lyari gang wars, the various characters within Lyari like Rehman Dakait, and to not side with one or the other, as many police officers have done, but to take on all sides simultaneously, to fight a multi-front war."
In the same interview, the DIG revealed that Chaudhary Aslam had to face a whole lot of pressures and threats throughout his time. As per the DIG, not only Chaudhary Aslam, but also his family faced threats, and his home was blown up. Well, it was hard luck that he and his family could survive.
On the other hand, he had pressure from the government to clean up Lyari and make it crime-free, which he would try to do, but with the new government taking over, Chaudhary Aslam would face new challenges, as he would have to be under target, FIRs and other plots. For the unversed, it was in 2014 that Chaudhary Aslam was killed in a targeted bomb blast. Sindh Police DIG Omar Shahid Hamid revealed:
"In Aslam’s case, his house was blown up before he was killed, and it was just pure luck that his family, and he, survived. So, for someone whose own circumstances were like that, it’s not a normal life. And again, I will give him that extra bit of leeway because the other characters who were around him profited a lot from these kinds of situations and became billionaires."
