David Bowie's Daughter, Lexi Was Forcibly Taken To A Rehab At 14, 'They Put Their Hands On Me...'

Late singer David Bowie's daughter, Alexandria Lexi Zahra, spoke about being forcibly taken away from her family home at the mere age of 14.

David Robert Jones, popularly known as David Bowie, was an English singer, songwriter and actor, who was one of the most influential musicians. His record sales, estimated at over 100 million worldwide, make him one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Bowie died of liver cancer in 2016. Recently, his daughter, Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Zahra Jones, revealed why she was absent during her father’s last days.

Lexi recently took to her IG handle and shared a traumatising chapter from her life. In the 20-minute video, she spoke about her struggle with drugs and alcohol during her teenage years. Lexi also revealed that she was forcibly taken away from her home when she was just 14 and was put in a treatment centre.

Lexi revealed she wasn’t prepared for it and tried her best to resist it, but nothing happened. She was then taken into a therapy centre for anxiety, depression, bulimia and self-harm as well as substance use. Elaborating on the same, she said:

“It was a weekday morning, I had already gotten ready for school. My mom called me out to the living room. Then two men came through the door, and they were both well over six feet tall. They told me I could do this the easy way or the hard way. I chose the hard way. I resisted. I screamed. I held onto the table leg. They grabbed me, they put their hands on me, they pulled me away from everything I knew and I was screaming bloody murder. I was screaming for someone to help me, but no one did."

In the therapy centre, Lexi felt abandoned and was even barred from using modern technology. She was forced to live outdoors in frigid conditions and was only allowed one shower a week. Though she spoke to her father occasionally, but was the last to know about his death. After spending 91 days at the retreat, Lexi was transferred to another facility for troubled teens, and that is where she learnt about her father's passing.

Though she spoke to him two days before his death, no one informed her about his passing. She read the statement about Bowie’s death, which included the line that he was 'surrounded by his whole family'. Revealing how she felt after reading it, Lexi shared:

“It made me physically ill because, yeah, the whole family was there. Except for me.”

In the same video, Lexi also spoke about her complex childhood and shared that despite getting a normal life, she constantly felt the pressure of being watched. She said adults talked to her differently than other kids, with some being “fascinated” while others wouldn’t even talk to her. She felt guilty of her existence, and due to the emotional turmoil, she turned to self-harm at the age of 11. She also developed bulimia when she was 12. And soon after Bowie’s cancer diagnosis in 2014, Lexi found solace in drugs and alcohol as an ‘escape’.
