Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleDaler Mehndi is a reputed Punjabi singer who has dedicated decades to the Indian music industry. From millennials to Gen Zs, everyone has grooved to one or more bangers of the 59-year-old. To date, the pop and Bhangra artist's high-energy dance anthems like Tunak Tunak Tun, Bolo Ta Ra Ra, Ho Jayegi Balle Balle, and Na Na Na Re have dominated Indian festivities.
As of October 2026, Daler has been making headlines once again, and although it's related to music, it's anything but positive. During his act at a fair in Uttarakhand, minister Subodh Uniyal walked onto the stage and told Daler Mehndi to stop singing, after which online chatter began that Daler was under the influence. Mika Singh defended Daler amid the viral claims, and the latter reacted to the former's comments.
On October 20, 2026, Mika Singh took to Instagram and shared a video message defending the 59-year-old Daler Mehndi against accusations of performing under the influence. Mika threw a bold challenge at the accusers, saying, "If you ever see Daler Mehndi drinking alcohol, I'll quit singing." Mika added Daler as a collaborator in the post so that it reaches the latter's followers as well. Following that, Daler commented on Mika's video update.
Daler Mehndi acknowledged 49-year-old Mila Singh's heartfelt gesture and expressed his gratitude towards him. The duo, who call each other brother, proved that they embody the true meaning of the word. Daler was grateful to Mika for having taken a firm stand for him. The Bolo Ta Ra Ra singer shared Mika's clip on his Instagram Story and wrote:
"Thank you Mika Paaji for standing up [for me]."
Cabinet Minister and Narendranagar MLA Subodh Uniyal told ANI that the government offered Daler Mehndi Rs. 35 lakh to perform at the Siddhpeeth Maa Kunjapuri Tourism and Development Fair in Uttarakhand's Tehri district. Subodh alleged that during the Navratri event, the singer looked "disoriented" and was not able to stand properly.
Subodh complained that despite charging a massive amount for the show, Daler didn't do his best to entertain the audience. The minister interrupted Daler mid-performance and questioned him about his ability to sing, which sparked rumours of Daler performing under the influence. Subodh said, "He was not even singing, so I expressed my resentment."
During the exchange, Subodh Uniyal was also heard questioning the Punjabi artist, "You cannot even speak, so how are you going to sing?" Refuting the drunk performer allegations against Daler, Mika Singh asserted that the former had been struggling with health issues for two years.
Mika challenged anyone who had seen Daler drinking alcohol to come forward, declaring that he would quit singing if someone could substantiate the claim. Mika alleged that the way Daler Mehndi was treated during the event was "disappointing" and added:
"A respected minister came on stage and made allegations about him drinking alcohol. But before publishing such claims, shouldn't we verify the facts and give the artist a chance to present his side? Would anyone dare to treat an international band like Coldplay that way? I know my brother Daler Mehndi, and he does not drink alcohol. He has been unwell for the past two years and is still recovering, yet he continues to perform with his band."
In the same video, Mika Singh further alleged that many singers use backing tracks these days. However, no one questions them the way Daler Mehndi was questioned during the performance.
Mika called Daler "India's biggest superstar" and said that could be why he became such an easy target. Mika further asked the media to be fair and responsible, while asserting how a headline can permanently damage someone's reputation.
