After Draper police report came out, Dakota Mortensen described 'scratching, shoving and striking incidents involving Taylor Frankie Paul.
Dakota Mortensen and Taylor Frankie Paul are now part of two ongoing domestic violence investigations in Utah, and new police details have added more tension to the situation. A report from Draper City Police, first obtained by PEOPLE, describes allegations that Mortensen experienced physical harm during a recent incident. At the same time, both sides have shared very different versions of what happened, and authorities are still looking into the matter as of 2026.
The Draper City Police Department opened an investigation on February 23, 2026, after a call came from a friend of Dakota Mortensen. The friend reported that Mortensen had been hurt during an incident at Taylor Frankie Paul’s home. According to the police report, Mortensen later explained there were two separate moments where things turned physical. He described actions like grabbing, scratching, shoving, and striking. Officers also collected photos that showed marks on his neck.
Mortensen also shared that he felt uneasy about reporting the situation earlier because Paul has a strong public image. The report further noted that police were also looking into a claim involving domestic violence in the presence of a child. However, no charges have been filed so far, and officials have not clearly stated who that specific claim is against. Neither Mortensen nor Paul immediately responded when PEOPLE reached out for comment on these latest claims.
This situation is not limited to just one investigation. On March 16, 2026, Draper police confirmed to PEOPLE that there is an open domestic assault case involving both Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen. Authorities also shared that claims have been made by both sides, and officers spoke with them on February 24 and 25, 2026. Then, on March 25, 2026, the West Jordan Police Department confirmed a separate active case. Officials explained that Mortensen contacted them toward the end of February and continued speaking with them in March. He also submitted a video, believed to be from early to mid-2024, though police have not shared more details about it.
Court records, also obtained by PEOPLE, show that Mortensen filed for a protective order on March 19, 2026. A hearing is scheduled for April 7, 2026. This ongoing situation has also brought back attention to Paul’s 2023 case. At that time, she was arrested after being accused of throwing metal chairs at Mortensen while her child was present in the room. She later entered a guilty plea in abeyance for aggravated assault. This means if she follows the court’s conditions, the charge could be reduced or dismissed. Other charges were dropped. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill confirmed to PEOPLE that his office is aware of the new investigations, and they could impact Paul’s probation from the earlier case.
The situation gained even more attention in March when TMZ released a video from the 2023 incident. The footage showed Paul yelling, placing Mortensen in a headlock, and throwing chairs, while a child could be heard crying. Soon after the video became public, ABC cancelled Paul’s planned season of The Bachelorette, just days before its premiere. After the video release, a spokesperson for Paul shared with PEOPLE that the video conveniently omits context and is a reprehensible attempt to distract from his own behaviour. Mortensen also addressed the situation in a statement to PEOPLE. He expressed:
“As anyone who has seen the video will understand, this is a deeply upsetting situation. I am focusing on our son and his safety, and hope that Taylor will do the same.”
A source close to Paul later told PEOPLE on March 25 that Mortensen has a pattern of provoking her and recording moments when she reacts. The source also claimed that those videos can give a misleading picture by leaving out what led to those reactions. Mortensen has not responded publicly to these specific claims. As of now, both investigations remain active, and authorities in Utah continue to review all evidence before making any final decisions.
