For those unaware, it was initially revealed that she is in a relationship with singer Role Model. However, recent reports suggest that things between the two are already over, less than a year after they were first linked.
According to a report by PEOPLE, Dakota Johnson and Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, have split up. What is surprising is that a source told the outlet that the pair had broken up “a while ago.”
For those unaware, Dakota and Role Model were first spotted together in December 2025. They were once again seen out on a date in Los Angeles the next month. In April 2026, another source confirmed to the publication that the two were dating “since last year.” They added, “It's definitely more than a fling, or just a flirt.”
The source said at the time that while Dakota “does really like” the singer, she was also “taking things slow after her previous long-term relationship.” Before getting together with Role Model, Dakota was in a relationship with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. They dated on-and-off from October 2017 until June 2025. Reports suggest that they were engaged for “years.”
While neither Dakota nor Role Model publicly addressed their relationship, a source claimed that they were “very much on the same page” and that things between them “just feels easy.” The recent news of their breakup comes after the two had collaborated on a track from Role Model's latest album, Chuck Timely & the Hourglass.
The collaboration reportedly happened in a rather unexpected way after Dakota dropped by the studio when the musician was recording the song, Love I You. In the song’s spoken bridge, she and Role Model can be heard exchanging flirty lines.
During a conversation with Nylon after the release of the track, Role Model opened up about “mixing work and relationships.” And according to the magazine, “He does admit that they are together.” Speaking further about Dakota’s cameo in the song, Role Model added:
“I had a lot of names to pick from for that, and then Dakota came to the studio one day, and Mason [Stoops, guitarist and producer] was like, ‘Why don’t you do it?’ I was like, ‘Stop! We’re not mixing work and relationships.’ She was like, ‘I’ll do it,’ and stood right up and got in the booth and knocked it out better than we could have imagined. So I was like, okay, if she’s down - I mean, that’s an amazing cameo.”
Sometime before their breakup, in March 2026, many thought that things between Dakota Johnson and Role Model had fizzled out, but a source assured that they were still going strong. They said, “Tucker has been in L.A. They are completely fine. Just both very chill homebodies.” At the end of the month, the duo was also photographed holding hands at the Paul McCartney show in Los Angeles, putting an end to the split rumors.
Before Dakota, Role Model was reportedly linked to influencer Emma Chamberlain from 2020 to 2023. On the other hand, before dating Chris Martin and Role Model, the actress was linked to Jordan Masterson, Noah Gersh, and Matthew Hitt.
On the work front, Dakota will soon be seen on the big screen in Verity, alongside Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett. Additionally, reports claim that she is also in production on Three Incestuous Sisters alongside actors Josh O’Connor, Jessie Buckley, and Saoirse Ronan.
