Another novel of Colleen Hoover, Verity, is getting a film adaptation after Wuthering Heights. The novel was published back in 2018 and was considered to be a different work compared to other books by Colleen. The novel has been a recipient of two accolades, including the British Book Award for Pageturner and Lovelybooks Leserpreis for Romance.
A teaser of the upcoming psychological erotic thriller was released on April 28, 2026. The new glimpse has introduced the characters, and the scenes have hinted at the arrival of a dark-themed movie. The film is releasing in theatres on October 2, 2026. Novel adaptations have followed a common format of leaving certain characters and events from the source material. Keep reading to know if Verity will also take the same route!
Back in March 2026, Colleen Hoover appeared for an interview with Entertainment Tonight, addressing her reaction to the film adaptation of Verity. The author told the outlet that she has seen the early cut of the movie, and she is excited to witness the audience getting to see the same on the big screen.
Moreover, Colleen was also questioned whether viewers would be surprised by Verity, and she responded by saying, “Yeah.” Hoover’s reply has already hinted at the fact that the movie might witness some changes from the source material. However, Colleen did not reveal any other details about the same. Notably, she opened up about her excitement to bring the movie adaptation, as she said:
“This is going to be a big year. We’ve got Reminders of Him on the 13th and then I’ve got Verity coming out in October.”
Josh Hartnett plays one of the leads in Verity. The actor spoke to Lauren Veneziani in April 2026, revealing that he had wanted to work with Anne Hathaway for a long time and that they had met a few times in the past. Josh claimed that Anne also wanted to collaborate with him. This eventually led to their casting in Verity. Speaking about the upcoming movie, Josh Hartnett opened up on what viewers would get to see and said:
“I don’t think people know what to expect from it and I like that, because it’s way different than the other Colleen Hoover books. It’s sexy, it’s mysterious and it’s a little bit gothic and a little bit scary, and it’s wild. And I think it’s gonna be surprising for audiences.”
Director Michael Showalter also spoke to ScreenRant about the movie’s theme in November 2025. Michael said during the conversation that Verity is not going to be like any other movie, saying that it is going to be “dark and twisted” while maintaining a scary and suspenseful atmosphere at the same time.
Apart from Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett, Verity also features Dakota Johnson in the lead. The main plot focuses on 'Lowen Ashleigh,' played by Dakota, who gets in touch with 'Jeremy Crawford' (Josh Hartnett) while searching for work. 'Lowen' is approached by 'Jeremy' to finish the book left incomplete by the latter’s wife, 'Verity' (Anne Hathaway), due to an accident. However, 'Lowen' finds a manuscript that reveals some secrets related to 'Verity.'
