Christina Applegate has been hogging the headlines since she went public about her misdiagnosis of MS. The actress has been a vocal advocate for living with multiple sclerosis for five years. However, she recently found out that she never had the disease to begin with. Christina Applegate once revealed that she knew her relationship with her ex-husband was a mistake on the very first date

Christina Applegate once gave sartorial advice to single women who struggle to tell whether the person they are seeing is right for them. Back in March 2026, when Christina released her memoir You With the Sad Eyes, she wrote, "If you go on a first date with a guy and you don't like his shoes, run." She further reflected on her own experience and shared that shoes are a "telltale sign" of whether or not a relationship will last.

The actress didn't name her ex-husband. However, it became clear she was talking about her first husband and That Thing You Do! star, Jonathon Schaech, whom she married in 2001. In the memoir, she recalled that when they were on their first date, he showed up wearing boots. However, they were not cowboy boots, which made it worse. She revealed that she spent the entire date thinking they were bad shoes. She wrote:

"For our first date, he had shown up in boots, but not even cowboy boots. I think that they were supposed to look like a cowboy boot, but they missed the mark by a wide margin. The whole time during that dinner, I remember thinking, 'Those shoes are so bad. Bad shoes, bad shoes, bad shoes, bad shoes.'"

Christina Applegate revealed that she had her doubts even when she was walking down the aisle but talked herself out of it. She revealed that Johnathon Schaech checked off so many boxes and even her father approved of him, so she thought she was sabotaging herself. She was quoted as saying:

"My future husband had more than USD 3.50 in his bank account and didn't rely on me monetarily. Handsome fella. He liked sports, so Dad was on board … he disappointed no one, except maybe me."

Well, as it turned out, Christina Applegate's intuition was right, and the marriage did not last, and the two ultimately called it quits in 2007. The actress went on to marry Dutch musician Martyn LeNoble. They said "I do" in 2013 and share one child, a daughter named Sadie. Johnathon Schaech, on the other hand, was briefly married to country singer Jana Kramer before tying the knot with Julie Solomon in 2013. They share two kids, a son and a daughter.
