Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleActress Chrissy Metz is dominating the headlines as she got candid about taking the weight-loss drug, GLP-1 to control her cravings. She is best known for playing the role of 'Kate Pearson' in the TV series, This Is Us. For this role, she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards. Apart from her professional achievements, Chrissy has also garnered significant attention for her plus-size physique.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Chrissy Metz shared that she tried diets, but it didn’t help her lose weight. The This Is Us actress mentioned that she is in her perimenopause and there were obesity issues within her family. Chrissy admitted that she was very much skeptical about taking the weight loss drug, GLP-1, for years and assumed that they would not work or would give her horrible effects. But so far, the drug has given her a positive experience. In her words:
"I just wanted to take care of myself. I’m not getting any younger. I’m in perimenopause, and there were obesity issues within my family and with my father, and I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me. It’s been great! I’ve enjoyed the benefits that I didn’t think that would come, because I was very skeptical. I was like, 'I’m not taking this medication. I don’t wanna do this. It’s not gonna work for me.'"
Chrissy shared how the drug helped her to control her cravings. In fact, it also lessened her joint pain. Chrissy highlighted that GLP-1 helped her to be more mobile. The This Is Us actress then opened up about the criticism she has been facing for her weight. She mentioned that even now, when she has started taking GLP-1, people are trolling her. However, she is not at all bothered. In her words:
"Before, people were like 'Why isn’t she on a GLP-1?' and now they’re going to know I’m on it and be like, 'Why is she on a GLP-1?' It doesn’t matter, because like I always say, they’re not in my life. They’re not in my doctor’s notes. They’re not in the hereditary issues my family has. My life is my life, and I have to do what’s best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind."
In the same interview, Chrissy explained that the medication isn't a magic solution and thus she also needs to make other lifestyle changes. She is working with a trainer and lifting weights to build muscle and become stronger. Chrissy highlighted that she doesn't want her mood to be ruined just because the scale shows a number higher than what she expected. Chrissy added that she doesn’t have a specific weight-loss goal. She was quoted as saying:
"I know it’s not a magic wand, and I need to change other things, so I’ve been working with a trainer, and I’m lifting and putting on muscle, and it’s really about how comfortable I am, and learning what I’m capable of, so I really try not to have a number. I just want to feel strong and not have my morning ruined because I stepped on a scale and I’m several pounds above what I think I should be. I’m just a regular old girl who is trying her best."
