In a recent interview, Chitrangada Singh revealed that she never expected to work in a Salman Khan film which is why when she was offered a role in 'Battle of Galwan', it came as a total surprise.
Chitrangada Singh is one of Bollywood's most loved actresses. She made her debut in 2005 with the crime drama, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, which earned her several accolades. Since then, she has appeared in a number of films and series, including Desi Boyz (2011), Bob Biswas (2021), and Khakee: The Bengal Chapter (2025), among others, successfully establishing her place in the industry. If you follow Chitrangada's works closely, you might be aware that the actress is all set to appear in Salman Khan's Battle of Galwan. Recently, she opened up about it and said the movie came as a total surprise to her and that she never expected to work in a Salman Khan film.
Battle of Galwan is one of the most anticipated Bollywood movies of this year. For those unaware, it is scheduled to release on April 17, 2026. The teaser of the film dropped on the film's producer, Salman Khan's 60th birthday, making it not only special but also successfully generating a lot of buzz. Coming to the film's cast, Salman will also act in it, alongside Chitrangada Singh, Ankur Bhatia, and others. It is worth mentioning that Chitrangada, 49, Salman's oldest female co-star in nearly 20 years, according to reports.
However, Chitrangada recently revealed that she had neither planned nor expected to work with the superstar, despite knowing each other for many years. Talking to IANS about how she came to work in Salman's film, she revealed that it was the film's director, Apoorva Lakhia, who first gave her a call regarding the same. She couldn't hide her shock and said:
“'Really?' I wasn't so sure that I'd ever end up doing a Salman Khan film because I mean, I don't even think I ever pitched myself for some work, you know, with him, even though I'd known him socially for a long time.”
According to Chitrangada, there was no prior planning for her and Salman Khan's pairing. Although she has been in the industry for so long, it is only now that a work opportunity has come her way. She further claimed that she had never discussed or approached the director of the Battle of Galwan, Apoorva Lakhia, for any work before. This is why the project, which came her way naturally, was even more special. It also made her feel that certain things are meant to happen without superficial force or expectation.
For the unversed, the Battle of Galwan is based on the true incident that most of us have witnessed, the India-China clash in 2020. Reflecting on the movie, Chitrangada feels that the Battle of Galwan is going to “be a big one” in terms of both scale and emotion. To quote her exact words:
“Yes, I think commercially also it's going to be a big one, Galwan, and it is at the same time rooted in very real incidents. So I think that's a great combination for cinema…I remember there was a lot of conversation about what happened at that time.”
The biggest reason that the Battle of Galwan is close to Chitrangada's heart is because of her family background. Most people might not be aware, but the actress comes from an army family, leading her to feel a strong connection to the film's plot. Sharing her feelings about the same, she said:
“I'm happy to be part of something which, you know, I mean that's the world that I know and I'm very proud to be a daughter of an army man. So yeah, it's very exciting. I'm very happy to be part of this.”
