Cher, 79, has addressed the popular chatter about her potential marriage plans with her much younger boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, before turning 80.
Cher has been dominating the internet ever since her appearance was confirmed on the December 20, 2025, episode of Saturday Night Live. Fans are in awe of the Little Man singer’s youthful glow as she is weeks away from ringing in her eighties, with everybody agreeing the pop queen is aging like fine wine. But that isn’t the only thing drawing attention. A widely circulating rumour claims the singer is planning to marry her 40-year-younger boyfriend, rapper Alexander “AE” Edwards. Cher has now stepped in to address and shut down the speculation.
After fresh reports suggesting that the music icon might be preparing to walk down the aisle on her 80th birthday, a representative of Cher has now set the record straight. Addressing the buzz, the rep confirmed to a news outlet:
“There are absolutely no plans for a wedding in her future.”
According to sources close to the singer, Cher’s priority at the moment is her work. As she turned heads with her highly anticipated Saturday Night Live appearance, she has also been preparing to release new music. Right now, these priorities largely outrank any wedding talk. However, she and Edwards are still going strong and are enjoying each other’s company.
Cher and Alexander’s relationship continues to fuel tabloid headlines, even three years after they were first spotted holding hands in Los Angeles in November 2022. Much of the attention has centered on their glaring 40-year age gap, but Cher remains unbothered by it. Earlier this month, the singer addressed the scrutiny head-on in a rare interview, dismissing the criticism with her trademark confidence. The pop goddess told CBS Mornings:
“Whatever. They’re not living my life. Nobody knows what goes on between us, but we just have a blast.”
And the sentiment goes both ways. Cher shared that AE doesn’t view their age gap as an issue at all. When asked if it ever bothers him, she replied, “No, thank God. He just says, 'You get older, but your spirit is younger.'” Speaking further about their loving bond and how age has never been a barrier between them, Cher shared:
“We laugh all the time. I love him. He’s beautiful. He’s talented. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve ever met.”
Shortly after they were seen together, Cher spoke about AE during a December 2022 appearance at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and it looks like her views haven’t changed much over the years. Back then, she had spoken up about her unconventional relationship and said:
"On paper, it's kind of ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous. And I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve."
While many now know him as the pop icon’s younger partner, Alexander “AE” Edwards has built a name of his own. He is a seasoned music executive at Universal Music Group and has worked closely with artists like Billie Eilish, Post Malone, and Tyga. Edwards was previously in a relationship with model Amber Rose, with whom he shares a son, Slash Electric. Cher and Edwards have even worked together in new creative pursuits. AE contributed to Cher’s 2023 holiday album, titled ‘Christmas’, and frequently appears at her side at major industry events, with little Slash occasionally tagging along.
For now, marriage is completely off the table, despite ongoing chatter and fan speculation, and Cher and AE continue to enjoy each other’s company like they did on the first day.
