The Pathaan issue has gotten a lot of media attention. A leader of the Maharashtra BJP, Ram Kadam, questioned the movie's creators, asking them if their choice to make the film was motivated by a desire for "cheap attention" or some other plot. He also stated that films that mock 'Hindutva' won't be accepted. Additionally, he was spotted backing the stance of some Hindu organisation's position who are actively protesting against the film.

Padukone's attire in the Pathaan's song, as well as the colour of Padukone and lead actor Shah Rukh Khan's clothing, had also drawn criticism from Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Narottam Mishra, who called for its rectification. He forewarned that the problematic portions must be removed, or the film ban might be worthwhile to consider.
