According to reports, Tom Brittney is not new to the entertainment world and rose to fame with his performance in Grantchester. So, as he makes headlines as the next 'Batman', let's take a look at who he really is.
John Campea previously said he knows who the next 'Batman' will be, and that it's someone he "wouldn't have guessed". He claimed that he had heard it from a number of sources, all of whom said the same actor. This was later expanded on by another insider, MyTimetoShine, who confirmed it was "Tom Brittney."
Tom Brittney is best known for his role in Grantchester, a UK series that has spanned 10 seasons since 2014, during which he appeared in 34 episodes. While the show is a UK staple, it is not widely known in the US. However, that is not the only project Tom has been part of. The actor has also appeared in a small role in the Netflix film, Back in Action, starring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz.
Tom was born and raised in the countryside, having grown up in Gravesend, Kent before moving to Devon when he was 12. However, he is not the only famous name in his family; the actor is the son of mystery novelist Lynn, known for penning the London-set World War II series, Mayfair 100. Lynn and her husband were always supportive of Tom's dreams of becoming an actor. He reflected on the same to PBS and said:
"A lot of people aren't as lucky, to be able to have parents, both her and my dad, who wanted me to become an actor. Actually, I didn't realise it was a proper career. I just kind of liked messing about, trying to make people laugh and performing. And they were like, 'Well, you could make this a job.' I was really fortunate to have them be like that because many other people would have parents who'd go like, 'No, come on. You need to get a normal job.' So, yeah, I do have a lot to thank them for."
Coming to Tom Brittney's love life, he is off the market. The actor has been engaged for a while now. However, he has decided to keep his relationship and his partner's identity out of the limelight. Nonetheless, he did reveal that his fiancée worked in the art department during his appearance on the MASTERPIECE Studio podcast.
"My fiancé is in the art department, so I have happily allowed her to decorate and design the entire flat. She's made it look incredible and like our perfect home. I've never had the skill to do interior design, so my places have always looked like a standard bachelor pad. Now we're going for Japandi sort of style (that's Japanese/Scandi fusion design for those who don't know. I didn't.) I love it!"
Tom is not just a skilled actor but has also found his skills behind the camera and founded a production company, Wild Nest Pictures, with his friend during lockdown. Tom is also a talented director, having been at the helm of the World War II drama Foxhole, which is executive-produced by his Grantchester co-star, Robson Green.
