Days after Raz B's 3-month-old son, Astro passed away, his heartbreaking 911 call has surfaced, in which he can be heard saying that the infant is 'not breathing.'

According to an Atlanta Police Department incident report, officers responded to a “person down” call at the rapper’s home on September 8, 2026. After EMS arrived at the scene, they soon pronounced that the baby, who was named Astro Monte Thornton, was dead. Now, days after the tragedy, Raz B’s frantic 911 call asking for help has surfaced.
When Raz B discovered his 3-month-old son, Astro, in an unresponsive state, he soon dialled 911. In the call, which has now been obtained by TMZ, from the morning Astro died, Raz could be heard begging the dispatchers to send help. Raz said, “My son died. My son is not breathing.” As the dispatcher tried to confirm the rapper's address and his son's age, Raz pleaded, “Please hurry up.”
The dispatcher then went on to confirm if the baby was breathing; to this, Raz reiterated what he said before and told her, “No, ma'am, he's not breathing. I think he's dead.” The call took an even more emotional turn when Raz told the dispatcher that they were already performing CPR on the 3-month-old, so he didn't have the patience to continue answering questions. He said:
“I’m his father. We're performing CPR. There's nothing else to know.”
Even though Raz told the dispatcher that he thought his son was dead, he refused to give up hope. This was evidenced at another point in the heartbreaking 911 call when Raz can be repeatedly heard saying, “Don’t give up. I can't believe this shit. This is crazy.”
After Raz B's initial 911 call, following which his son, Astro, was declared dead, the Atlanta Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit were also notified and responded to the rapper's home. Police said that they obtained a search warrant, and investigators documented and collected items that they believed would have evidentiary value. However, the detectives revealed that there were no signs of obvious trauma or foul play in the infant’s death.
Later, a spokesperson for Raz B and his wife, Mona Li, confirmed in a statement that their son Astro had indeed passed away. Without revealing the cause of death, they said that the pair would appreciate everyone's love and support during this time. The statement read:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Astro Monte Thornton, beloved son of Mona and De’Mario ‘Raz B’ Thornton of the R&B supergroup B2K. The family asks for privacy as they navigate this difficult time and appreciates your love and support in advance.”
In addition to Astro, the couple shares another son named Versai Carter. Raz and Mona welcomed him in October 2024. Mona also has an older daughter from a previous relationship. Mona announced in late April 2026 that she was nine months pregnant with Astro. A month later, in May 2026, Raz and Mona shared that they had welcomed Astro through a joint Instagram post.
Even though they didn't share a photo of baby Astro at the time, Raz and Mona could be seen posing with their son, Versai, and the latter's older daughter. In the caption, the two wrote:
“Right now we’re at the hospital getting ready to welcome our newest addition, Astro, another baby boy to the Thornton family. Big congratulations to my beautiful wife for being so strong through this journey. Watching you become a mother again is one of the greatest blessings I could ever witness.”
