After 19 years, Awarapan 2 releases in theatres on August 14, 2026. Shriya was the soul of Awarapan, and a while before the film was released in theatres, the actress dropped candid pictures with her husband, Andrei Koscheev and their daughter. Her fans requested that she return to movies and credited her with the sequel to Awarapan 2.
Awarapan 2 will see the return of 'Shivam Pandit' a.k.a Emraan Hashmi. The trailer has already shown how he misses 'Aliyah ', a.k.a Shriya Saran, as he places a rose on her grave. Now, a while back, when Shriya posted cute snaps with her husband and daughter from Petersburg, netizens credited her for the sequel of Awarapan 2.
A fan wrote, "You are the reason Awarapan got a sequel." Another die-hard fan commented, "Please come back to the cinema industry. Yeh na Santoor wali mummy hai." A devoted fan of Awarapan narrated the cult classic dialogue that 'Shivam' narrates, remembering 'Aliyah'. It goes like, "Ek awaaz hai joh mere kano mein goonjti rehti hai. Ek chehra hai joh meri aankhon ke samne baar baar aa jata hai mere dil ka sukoon thi woh."
Awarapan 2 will showcase Emraan Hashmi as the 'ghayal parinda' named Shivam Pandit. He will be playing his cult classic role nearly two decades after Awarapan was released. The sequel to Awarapan also has Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, and Suvinder Vicky in important roles. The movie has been directed by Nitin Kakkar, while Bilal Siddiqui has penned the story. Amaal Mallik and Mithoon have done the music for Awarapan 2.
Shriya Saran once sat down for an interview with Pinkvilla and revealed how Awarapan was very important for Emraan. He always loved the movie, and she loved doing it because Mohit Suri is an intense director. In her words:
"Emraan ke liye wo film bahut important thi. For me, I enjoyed doing this film because Mohit Suri is a very intense director to work with. Jab wo scene sunaate hain, samjhate hain, aur jis tarah se wo narrate karte hain, it's very intense. He really brings your soul out. He is very talented. I'm so happy for him. Like unki movies hamesha se achha kar rahi hai."
Shriya had also spoken about Awarapan's box office performance and mentioned that, for her, it was very difficult to process. When the film came out, the actress stated that they all had lots of hopes. But she felt that the movie was way ahead of its time. In her words:
“They didn't send me an invite after being nominated for several awards. It was like that. Awarapan is a movie that I felt should be celebrated; people will love it. So when something like that happens, you kind of feel very disheartened.”
For the unversed in Awarapan, 'Shivam' is played by 'Bharat Malik', essayed by Ashutosh Rana. He is a big businessman who commits many crimes. When 'Shivam' loses 'Aliyah', he reaches a stage of grief which changes him as a person.
'Shivam' and 'Aliyah' fall in love, and he promises her dad that he will leave the gangster life behind to start a new beginning with her.' Aliyah's dad attempts to kill 'Shivam', and the bullet hits 'Aliyah'. 'Shivam' feels guilty and believes that his goal in life was to be a good person. The movie was a commercial failure at the time of its release, but fans are surely waiting to watch Awarapan 2.
