In a recent interview, Taapsee Pannu opened up about the alleged rift with Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut.
Taapsee Pannu is one of the most talented stars in the Bollywood film industry. She rose to fame with the spy thriller, Baby and the courtroom drama, Pink. Currently, Taapsee is hogging the limelight for her newly released film, Assi. For the unversed, the spine-chilling courtroom drama starring Taapsee in the lead role was released on February 20, 2026. In a recent interview, she talked about the alleged rift between her and Kangana Ranaut.
In a recent interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Taapsee Pannu revealed that she never had any clash with Bollywood actress, Kangana Ranaut. The Pink actress shared it was the Queen actress’s sister who called her Kangana’s 'sasti copy'. Taapsee mentioned that if Kangana is such a phenomenal actress, then she doesn’t have any problem being her copy. Taapsee added that she is open to make friendship with Kangana. She was quoted as saying:
"I don’t know if I ever fought. A fight happens when two people clash. I never clashed. You tell me — have I ever said even a single line against her? Her sister called me a ‘cheap copy.’ She said that since I don’t earn as much money as her, that makes me cheap. If she is such a brilliant actress, I have no problem being called her copy. You can take out any statement of mine – I haven’t said anything against her. I am open to being friends."
The alleged rift between Taapsee Pannu and Kangana Ranaut dates back to 2020. The duo was involved in a public social media war. Kangana back then called Swara Bhasker and Taapsee Pannu, 'B Grade actresses' and 'needy outsiders.' Responding to the harsh remarks, the Assi actress tweeted. The tweet made by Taapsee can be read as:
"Before that there is someone trying to use divide and rule policy in the film industry. Yes, there are differences between people born with pedigree and the ‘outsiders’ but we aren’t battling each other we are battling for a better system to co-exist not by mudslinging and name-calling."
Taapsee Pannu is a phenomenal actress in the Bollywood film industry. She has worked in the Telugu and Tamil film industry. She began her career in modelling and later switched to acting. She made her acting debut with the Telugu film, Jhummandi Naadam in 2010. Taapsee made her Bollywood debut with the film, Chashme Baddoor. She received wider acclaim for the film, Thappad. She also shared screen space with Bollywood stars, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, in Pink and Dunki, respectively.
Currently, the actress is making headlines for his new film, Assi. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the 2026 courtroom drama explores the life of a r**e survivor and how justice is served to her by a criminal lawyer. Taapsee played the role of the criminal lawyer, 'Raavi', in the film. Alongside Taapsee, the film also stars, Kani Kusruti and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
Kangana Ranaut is widely known for her versatility. She never shied away from speaking her mind. Earlier, in 2017, Kangana Ranaut appeared on the Karan Johar-hosted show, Koffee With Karan, and called him the 'movie mafia' and the 'flagbearer of nepotism.' This led to a major controversy. Kangana is best known for her films like Queen, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Krrish 3, Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Life in a… Metro and more. She will next be seen in the film, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata. According to a report by Variety, Kangana is all set to make her Hollywood debut with the horror drama, Blessed Be the Evil.
