Famous legendary singer, Asha Bhosle, passed away at the age of 92. The news came as a shock to her millions of fans across the world. It is worth mentioning that four years ago, the Bhosle family suffered the biggest loss with the death of Lata Mangeshkar. Now, Asha Bhosle's death has left a deep wound in the musical industry.
On April 11, 2026, Asha Bhosle was admitted to the hospital after she suffered cardiac and respiratory issues. As per a report in the Hindustan Times, Asha Bhosle wasn't keeping well for the past few months. She was critical when she was admitted in the hospital. On April 12, 2026, she took her last breath. It is worth noting that Lata Mangeshkar also died on a Sunday, on February 6, 2022.
At a young age, Asha Bhosle has seen the most difficult life. She was just 16 years old when she decided to elope with her personal secretary, Ganpatrao Bhosle, who was 15 years older than her. However, after being in an abusive first marriage and three kids later, Asha Bhosle decided to break off her wedding in 1960. The famous singer gave love another chance when she fell for six years younger composer, Rahul Dev Barman, after being with him for a long time. However, RD Burman's family wasn't happy with the marriage.
At the age of 80, Asha Bhosle suffered the biggest pain of her life as her daughter, Varsha, died by suicide. In 2012, Varsha passed away at her residence in South Mumbai. In an interview with PTI, Asha Bhosle talked about her daughter's death and how it was the biggest loss of her life. She stated that the pain her daughter's suicide has caused will stay with her till the last breath of her life. She went on to state that others might forget it, but it will be with her, as she cries alone and doesn't talk about her grief. She was quoted as saying:
"It is sad that my daughter could not see my film (Mai). Let me tell you something, I do not know about God’s judgement, in fact his judgements are sometimes harsh when he delivers it. The pain that the girl (Varsha) has caused me or God has caused me, will hurt me till I die, it will be invisible to the others though, because you should always laugh with others but cry alone. So that is why I do not talk about my grief or try to show my pain."
We pray for strength for the Bhosle family as they navigate the biggest loss.
