On the personal front, he is married to VJ-turned actress Maria Goretti, and they are parents to two kids, Zeke Warsi and Zene Zoe Warsi. In a recent interview, Arshad revealed why Jaya Bachchan warned Maria before she got married to him.
Arshad Warsi and Maria Goretti tied the knot on February 14, 1999, in a church ceremony followed by a traditional nikah. In a recent conversation with Filmygyan, Arshad recalled the advice Jaya gave Maria when she was all set to marry him. The actor recalled:
“Jaya is a very intelligent woman. She told me, she says, ‘It is one of the most difficult things to do in life, is to marry an actor.’ I wouldn’t say actor ki fitrat hai, but unfortunately, you’re always put in situations where you are hanging with very interesting people, very good-looking people.”
In the same conversation, Arshad recalled Jaya asking Maria whether she was sure about marrying him. Arshad stated that Jaya told Maria that an actor’s job makes him do things that are not normal for a normal person. Elaborating on Jaya’s advice, Arshad said:
“Jaya ji actually said, when Maria and I were getting married, that one of the most difficult things to do in life is to marry an actor. She told us, ‘Are you ready for it?’ That’s the reason why, because your job makes you do things that are not normal for a normal couple. So then you have to cross that barrier and still be with that person. So your love has to be beyond normal people’s love and attention.”
Arshad and Maria’s love story began when he was invited to St. Xavier's College to judge a dance talent show and saw the talented Maria on stage. Arshad was impressed with Maria’s dancing skills and asked her to join his troupe, but she declined the offer. Three months later, the two met again through a common friend, and Maria joined Arshad's dance troupe.
Soon they became friends, and one day Arshad asked Maria about her feelings for him. She refused to have any feelings beyond friendship. Soon he mixed beer into her Coke, and Maria confessed her feelings for Arshad and even told him that she couldn’t live without him.
After dating each other for 8 long years, Arshad and Maria had finally decided to get married. Maria's parents were not very keen on having a son-in-law from the film fraternity and were reluctant to get their daughter married to Arshad. However, after meeting Arshad, they had agreed to the marriage and had given their blessings to the couple. The couple got married in 1999 on Valentine’s Day. They had a church wedding, which was followed by a nikaah.
