Arbaaz Khan once opened up about his brother, Salman Khan's first love affair. He said that the actor was head-over-heels in love with Shaheen Jaffrey but later, drifted apart.
Salman Khan is one of the most eligible bachelors in Tinseltown. The actor, who has been working in the industry for nearly four decades now, has had multiple love affairs with some popular faces. The 58-year-old has dated Aishwarya Rai, Katrina Kaif, Sangeeta Bijlani, Somy Ali, and many more. But did you know about Salman’s first true love?
Recently, a Reddit user shared screenshots from an old magazine in which Salman’s brother, Arbaaz Khan, talked at length about the actor’s first true love, Shaheen Jaffrey. Arbaaz revealed that as they grew up, both of them became each other’s confidante and when Salman started going to college, he met Shaheen there. Arbaaz said that the actor previously had known many girls, but no one ever had the mesmerising effect as Shaheen. In his words:
“As we grew up, we developed close rapport and shared our secrets. Being a very outgoing person, he was friendly with girls even before he could finish school. In college, he met Anuradha Patel’s sister Shaheen, who was to become Salman’s steady girlfriend for the next three years. Salman was truly in love with Shaheen. He had known many girls, but none had the mesmerising effect on him as she had.”

Previously, the popular Bollywood actress, Kiara Advani, who is Shaheen’s niece, revealed that her mother, Genevieve Advani, had helped Salman and her aunt meet. During a conversation on Voot’s Feet Up with the Stars Season 2, Kiara mentioned that it was Salman and Shaheen’s first relationship in their lives. Kiara further added:
“She introduced my mausi Shaheen to him and Salman sir and Shaheen mausi dated each other long back. It may have possibly been their first relationship.”
Moreover, in another old interview, Shaheen’s stepmother, Bharati Jaffrey, revealed that they would treat Salman like their family and even ask him to buy groceries. Meanwhile, Salman’s family, too, thought Shaheen was one of their own. This made everyone believe that the couple would eventually tie the knot. Unfortunately, things did not turn out that way.
In the interview with the magazine, which was shared on Reddit, Arbaaz revealed that after their initial honeymoon phase, Salman and Shaheen’s relationship started falling apart. This happened before the now-Bollywood superstar stepped into the Hindi film industry. Somewhere around 1988, Salman crossed paths with Sangeeta Bijlani. Back then, the two were trying their hands at modelling, when they met at a few parties.

Arbaaz said that Sangeeta had just broken off from a long relationship. Her frequent meetings with his brother made them really close, and they fell in love. Meanwhile, Shaheen’s gut instincts told her that something was up with Salman, and soon, the actor confirmed her doubts. She was left heartbroken but remained resilient and was even ready to forgive and forget everything as long as Salman gave up on Sangeeta. But he just could not give up on the latter. Hence, to take a break from all this Shaheen headed to London for some time, but when she came back, everything was over between Salman and her.
In the same interview, Arbaaz also talked about how Sangeeta provided Salman with much-needed stability and also acted as a catalyst in transforming Salman from a hot-tempered guy to an understanding and sensitive one. After years of courtship, Salman and Sangeeta were to get married in 1994. Unfortunately, they called off their wedding as Somy Ali had entered into Salman’s life.
