'Blue Bloods' actor, Alex Duong passed away at the age of 42. He once opened up about losing vision in his left eye while revealing his wife's reaction to the same!
Famous comedian and actor, Alex Duong passed away at the age of 42. His passing was confirmed by one of his close friends. If the reports are to be believed, the comedian, who was known for his quick with passed away after his battle with cancer. For the unversed, Alex was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive form of tissue cancer, in 2025, and since then, he has been struggling with his health.
It was last year when Alex Duong bared his heart out and revealed how he was dealing with his life amid his cancer diagnosis, along with sharing how the aggressive form of cancer led him to lose his vision. Alex's passing at such a young age sparked a sense of grief in many.
According to his family friend, Hilarie Steele, who confirmed his death, Alex was admitted to the hospital after going into septic shock. In the statement that confirmed his death, Hilarie Steele revealed that he was surrounded by his loved ones, and his wife, Christina and daughter, Everest, were able to see him for the last goodbye before he passed away. The statement could be read as:
"He was comfortable and thankfully out of pain. [His wife and daughter] Christina and Everest were able to see him last night, and he was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born. We are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time."
It was back in April 2025, when speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Alex Duong talked about his cancer diagnosis and how it took vision in his left eye. The actor and comedian revealed that a lot was already going on as the city was on the edge. Well, Alex discovered pain behind his eyes, and he thought he was probably sick. When the Store reopened, he managed to go there but attracted attention as people were staring at him.
It was during that time when his manager sent him home, saying that it looked like his left eye was about to fall out. By then, Alex shifted to glasses from contact lenses. In the same interview, Alex revealed that his wife reacted as well, saying, 'What's wrong with your eye?', as it looked massive, swollen and discoloured. Following this, Alex was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that affects soft tissue. It was discovered that a tumour was blocking blood in the nerve of his left eye.
Alex didn't have health insurance, and after his stay in the hospital for a week or so, he was told that the tumour was extremely aggressive and needed immediate attention, and was provided with an eye patch. After only a few days, the vision in his left eye was gone. Recalling the hard phase of that time, Alex shared that after he got into UCLA, and his treatment began, he was wearing an eyepatch and his head was shaved, due to him losing his hair. Making a joke about the same, the comedian said:
"I look like a tsunami going down on my wife. I’m gonna end up looking like the Last Airbender. Or the fattest Air Gender Bender.”
Alex Duong was told that alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma has a low survival rate, and the tumour would eventually reach his nose and then neck, which led him to spend more time with his close ones. He shared that he felt like he was seeing only black feathers in his left eye, and if the treatment were successful, he would have to undergo a risky orbital reconstruction surgery.
A GoFundMe was created to help Duong, but by April 2025, he owed USD 400,000 in medical bills, as shared by him. A comedian at heart, Alex, in the same interview, revealed that while he was being strong, he hated being called that, as all he wanted was to make jokes and make people laugh. With his passing, his fans, family and friends are now left with utter sorrow.
