After playing a notable character in 'Dhurandhar', Akshaye Khanna is being loved by many, and they want to see more of him in the second instalment of the film.
Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar was the most-loved film. However, it was Akshaye Khanna's acting as 'Rehman Dakait' that left the audience hooting for him. While he might not be the protagonist, his role as an antagonist was appreciated by many. On top of it, his impromptu dance on Bahrainian rapper, Flipperachi's Arabic track, FA9LA was another hit moment. It left his fans wondering if Akshaye Khanna will be a part of Dhurandhar 2.
Since Akshaye Khanna's character, 'Rehman Dakait', had a 'Kasainuma' end, his fans wonder if it would be possible for his character to return in Dhurandhar 2. As per a new report, Akshaye Khanna will allegedly return to the sets soon. The first part of the film gave a glimpse of the sequel, which explores Ranveer Singh's transformation from 'Jaskirat Singh Rangi' to undercover agent 'Hamza Ali Mazari'. And how he rose as the gangster in Lyari after 'Rehman Dakait's death. The Filmfare shared the news that the second part of Dhurandhar will give a backstory of Akshaye Khanna's character, 'Rehman Dakait's' life. The report can be read as:
"Our sources confirm that Akshaye Khanna will return to sets for a short one-week shoot, aimed at expanding his character’s backstory and adding more layers to his role in the next chapter of the franchise."
The 50-year-old actor proved that he is the son of the superstar, Vinod Khanna. Acting runs in his veins, and he doesn't need to be the protagonist of the film to make headlines. The film, which also stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R. Madhavan, quietly took away the limelight from them. He overshadowed everyone with his role as 'Rehman Dakait'.
According to reports, KoiMoi claimed that the film was made on a budget of Rs. 250 crore. While Ranveer Singh was paid a salary of Rs. 30-50 crore, Akshaye Khanna was reportedly paid a cheque of Rs. 2.5 crore. However, nothing on record about the actors' salaries has been mentioned.
It is worth mentioning that initially, Akshaye Khanna rejected the character. As per the casting director, when Akshaye Khanna was called for the role, he was reluctant to play the antagonist. However, he scolded the casting director for offering him the role. Mukesh said:
"I said, Akshaye paaji will do it. And then we all jumped on it. I honestly hadn't watched Chhaava then. But I called him. Unhone pehle mujhe daanta. He said, 'Paagal ho gaya hai kya?' I asked him to at least hear me out once."
The film was released in Indian theatres on December 5, 2025. Within the very first day, it broke the record of the 2025 hit film, Saiyaara. The movies had an ensemble cast such as Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun and Saumya Tandon. However, the film faced a lot of legal issues as it was based on real people. It is worth mentioning that the film also gave a teaser of Dhurandhar 2 at the end, which is going to hit the theatres in March 2026.
