'Akhanda 2' is one of the most-awaited films by Nandamuri Balakrishna. However, the film has now been postponed indefinitely ahead of its worldwide release on December 5, 2025.
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam was supposed to hit the global screens on December 5, 2025. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, the film was postponed indefinitely amid legal rows and financial crunches within the production company. The fans were very enthusiastic about the film's release, as the sequel was expected to break all the records created by the 2021 film, Akhanda. While the makers have not shared many details about what went down, here's what we know so far.
Nandamuri Balakrishna's highly anticipated Telugu sequel, Akhanda 2, has been indefinitely postponed before its scheduled worldwide release on December 5, 2025. The sudden decision has left fans and industry insiders disappointed, as the film was expected to be one of 2025's biggest releases. However, the production house, 14 Reels Plus, confirmed the news in a statement on their X account.
The production house shared that the film, Akhanda 2, will not be released due to some "unavoidable circumstances" on December 4, 2025, around 11:42 P.M. The production company revealed that they are working on resolving the issues and will get back to the fans with an update soon. He was quoted as saying:
"With a heavy heart, we regret to inform you that #Akhanda2 will not be releasing as scheduled due to unavoidable circumstances. This is a painful moment for us, and we truly understand the disappointment it brings to every fan and movie lover awaiting the film. We are working tirelessly to resolve the matter at the earliest. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. Your support means the world to us. We promise to share a positive update very soon."
Confusion first surfaced in the Telugu states, particularly in the Nizam region, where ticket bookings were delayed and canceled. Paid premieres scheduled for December 4, 2025, were scrapped. While overseas screenings were disrupted by pending Key Delivery Messages (KDMs), reports suggested that financial strain from earlier projects added to the production company, 14 Reels Plus's troubles.
Another reason why Akhanda 2 was postponed was the major setback the production company received from the Madras High Court. According to reports, the court issued an injunction against its release. For the unversed, it is being reported that the order, in favour of Eros International Media Limited, stemmed from a long-standing arbitral dispute involving 14 Reels Entertainment worth approximately Rs. 28 crore.
The Madras High Court ruled that releasing Akshanda 2 under 14 Reels Plus LLP would constitute bypassing the award. Thus, halting any distribution or commercial exploitation until further notice. The pending KDMs, the financial crunch, and the lawsuit have resulted in Samyuktha, Harshaali Malhotra, and Balakrishna's Akhanda 2 facing an uncertain future. The production team works to resolve both legal and financial hurdles before announcing a new release date.
Fans and critics are expressing their disappointment over the sudden cancellation of Akhanda 2's premiere and voicing their anger on X. Some users are also pointing out that the film is still listed on ticket-selling websites, and many people might still be buying them, which is causing more confusion and increasing frustration over the refund process. A user penned, "They can't scrape together Rs. 28 crore for Eros International, yet somehow expect to drop the film the same day, truly premium-level budgeting skills. Didn't see this plot twist coming from the producer… but hey, irony deserves its own credit roll." Another user wrote:
"Remove the movie from booking apps; people have started sharing their frustration due to ticket cancellation /refunds in the rating section. Seems a few people are still booking @14ReelsPlus @bookmyshow #Akhanda2."
