10 Important Things Every Bride-to-be Needs To Check A Day Before Her Wedding

Just when you relax thinking that you are all set to make a grand entry into the day of your dreams, there is just this teeny-weeny bit of worry that starts to bother you. And, then it spreads its wings triggering the panic button. There are tens and thousands of tiny things to take care of, and you feel like you are forgetting about them.

#1. Pack all your tit-bits

Keep a handbag ready with everything that you might need last minute, so you are not scrambling to find a napkin or a hairpin just when the baraat is at your doorstep. All the essentials that you might need at the wedding venue should be right at the top. Pack some just-in-case items like a mini deodorant, mouth freshener, sanitary pads, tissues and your wedding vendors' contact numbers as well. If you are planning a change of footwear during the pheras, toss in those too.

#2. Check-in your bags

We are definitely not kidding you. Just the way you check-in your bags at the airport, check-in your bags into your bridal room at the wedding venue, a night before your wedding. If there are any bags that need to go directly to your in-laws' place from the venue, then make sure they have been checked-in as well. Make a checklist of all the things that you would want to carry along or you think you need before you can make a trip back to your parents’ place.

#3. Lay out your wedding trousseau

Your ensemble is picture perfect, replete with trinkets, accessories, footwear, clothes and jewellery. So, you definitely cannot afford to misplace anything at the last minute. Lay everything out just the way you need them while getting ready. Poonam Kapoor, wedding attire stylist of Kaaenaaat Fashions, says, “Depute someone in-charge of all that needs to be carried to the parlour and explain to her the sequence as well so you’re not dragging your choli over your finished hair and makeup if you accidentally leave it home.”

#4. Get done with all your beauty treatments

You need to book for waxing, bleaching and all those other fancy facials to get that wondrous wedding glow. However, you will have to treat your skin with much TLC (Tender Loving Care) the day before your wedding, as you can never really tell when your skin erupts into rashes or breaks into pimples. Makeup artist and stylist, Vidya Tikari advises, “Leave the last day for a body massage with aromatic oils. For the face, go in for lymphatic drainage massages to reduce puffiness and water retention or pressure point/energetic mini face lifts for that instant radiance.”

You need to confirm with everyone the time and venue of arrival a day before just to avoid all last minute hassles. Newlywed, Kanika Aggarwal recalls, “I simply made all my calls to my musicians, hair/makeup artists, decorators, DJ, photographers, et al, reminding them of their scheduled arrival time and to clarify any last minute doubts thereby putting all my fears of anything going amiss to rest.”

Even if you love to do everything by yourself and have even planned the entire event without a wee bit of help, do not let the stress of it all get to you. Your parents are usually too busy looking after your in-laws to focus on the nitty-gritties. Simply assign your 'gal pals' to attend to the guests and check on their well-being, your chachas and mamas can look after the baraat as well as keep a strict eye on the caterers, photographers and planners.

#7. Bond with your close ones

This will be the last time for a long while before you can catch up with your parents, friends, and cousins. You will soon get busy meeting your relatives from your in-laws' side post-wedding. So, make sure you spend some time alone with your parents before the big day. Try and catch up with your friends and cousins as well. In case, you cannot spare a moment for your friends during the wedding, remember to shoot them a quick message thanking them for being there for you, and for being your pillars of strength throughout.

#8. Confront any fears or concerns

If you are still wondering whether you are taking the right step ahead, just let the feelings flow. Newly married Kriti Tripathi, narrates how she fought her fears, “I thought of how much my fiancé respects my parents and how he’s bonded with my baby bro, making them feel like his own. And, I simply let that exhilaration of being his forever set in.” So, just let your fears fly away and step into your new life with positivity.

Just be with yourself for a while and do not freak out about the wedding. Focus on your breath. Be it drinking or having late night fun with your friends and siblings, indulging in oily food, or stressing out, resist the urge and do your best to be in bed as early as possible. She says, “Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and don’t eat anything that’s processed. Since you will have to stuff up on mithai and useless junk later, eat only veggies and fruits. Abstaining from salt and sugar a day before your wedding will help wash off all toxins.”
