It was on October 11, 2002, when Mr Bachchan celebrated his birthday with his family and loved ones at the Marriott in Mumbai. As per multiple reports, Rekha made her way in her elaborate traditional look, surprising everyone. Uninvited, Rekha was spotted entering the lobby of the hotel with her secretary, Farzana. Seeing the other woman at the hotel, many guests were shocked, and the word spread like wildfire. Within moments, the press reached the spot, and the Umrao Jaan was chased by the photographers and media.
Despite her eagerness to be seen next to her man on the momentous occasion of his birthday, Rekha panicked. She knew that if she was caught gatecrashing the superstar’s birthday bash with whom she was always linked, things would not go down well with him or his family. Without getting out of the hotel, she locked herself in the nearest washroom of the hotel and stayed there until the media left.

Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan’s alleged relationship was and continues to be a part of major ‘famous Bollywood affairs’ discussions. Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan had met each other on the sets of Do Anjaane (1976), and that is how it all began. But the sad part was that Amitabh Bachchan was already married to Jaya Bachchan when rumours about his and Rekha's alleged affair started pouring in.
Their relationship never attained a happily ever after, and both went ahead to live starkly opposite lives and even after so many years, whenever they cross paths, it hits the headlines in no time. Despite being the other woman in the relationship, Rekha’s unrequited love for Mr Bachchan never faded, and her eyes still lit up at the mere mention of him.
