Dharmendra and Hema Malini had a hush-hush wedding in 1980, and the duo welcomed two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. The couple received a lot of criticism for their marriage, and Hema was labelled as a homewrecker. Despite all this, Hema Malini and Dharmendra continued to stand beside each other. Hema has always been unapologetic about her personal life and never minced her words.
In an old interview with Lehren Retro, Hema Malini opened up about not living with her husband, Dharmendra and shared how the latter was a good father to his daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. The veteran actress mentioned that she was the one who raised them, but her husband was always present with them whenever needed. In her words:
"I have my two children; they are brought up very well, and Dharmendra is always there. That is the best part; he is always there."

Hema Malini further revealed how he was more worried about their daughters getting married too quickly. However, she convinced him that things would fall into place when God permitted, and their daughters would find their perfect match. She said:
"Actually, he was worried: Shaadi hona chaiye bachchon ka jaldi. I said, ‘Hoga (It’ll happen).’ When the time is right, the right person will come around. With the blessings of God and Guru Ma, everything happened."
When Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, graced Simi Garewal's talk show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, the veteran actress revealed that her husband, Dharmendra, likes their daughters to be always dressed up in ethnic ensembles. Esha also recalled how she would make Dharmendra accept her decision to join films slowly, as he would get angry. The loving daughter also revealed her father, Dharmendra's possessive side and revealed that he always asks them to sit at home. Mentioning that his upbringing is Punjabi type, Esha revealed that it is only because of their mother that they could go out for sports and all.

Esha Deol and her husband, Bharat Takhtani first met each other as teenagers during an inter-school competition and tied the knot in 2012. They welcomed two adorable daughters, Radhya and Miraya. Unfortunately, after 12 years of marital bliss, Esha and Bharat decided to part ways on February 6, 2024. There were rumours of their separation in the media after Bharat missed Hema Malini’s 75th birthday celebrations and the two completely stopped making any public appearances together. Esha and Bharat shared a joint statement via the Delhi Times to publicly announce their divorce. Their statement could be read as:
“We have mutually and amicably decided to part ways. Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children is and will be of utmost importance to us. We’d appreciate our privacy is respected.”
