Indians tend to take the saying ‘Atithi devo bhava’ quite seriously. Bollywood actor-singer, Ayushmann Khurrana, too, took it word by word and showed the country’s hospitality to the K-pop idol, Eric Nam. The latter is a renowned American singer who is based out of South Korea. He ventured into the global music industry in 2013 and, since then, has become one of the popular names in showbiz. Eric touched down in India recently to perform in the second edition of the music festival, Lollapalooza, which took place in Mumbai on January 27-28, 2024.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Eric Nam first crossed paths last year at the TIME 100 Impact Award in Singapore, which they both won. Since then, the duo kept in touch, and when the K-pop icon visited India, Ayushmann took it upon himself to introduce him to the various delicacies of the country, as the two are big foodies.

Ayushmann Khurrana treated Eric to a wide range of Indian foods, making sure that the K-pop idol gets a taste of every region of the country. According to a report by Pinkvilla, some of the dishes that Eric tasted included Kanda Bhajiya with green and red chutney, which is a speciality from West India, Pindi Chole with Amritsari Kulcha, a delicacy from North India, Hyderabadi Gosht Ki Biryani with Raita, a non-vegetarian dish from South India, and Ras Malai, which is a famous dessert from East India.
As per the same report, Ayushmann opened up about his thoughts on such a gesture towards Eric. He said that as India is a vast country, hence, he wanted the Korean singer to have a taste of every part of India. Ayushmann further revealed that he was very happy as he could see Eric being extremely happy after such delicious dishes. Ayushmann said:
“I realised that Eric is a big foodie and I wanted to give him the best food experience of our country that he will never be able to forget! Our beautiful country, our Incredible India is also known across the world for its culinary might. We have so many cultures that the cuisine is extremely diverse and unique. Indian food is a celebration of life itself and I wanted Eric to feel that when he is in India. I could see his eyes go wide each time he took a bite and savoured each dish to the fullest. I was happy seeing him happy because I truly believe in the saying ‘Atithi Devo Bhava.’”

Eric, on the other hand, heaped praises on the Bollywood actor’s hospitality. He mentioned that Ayushmann was a gracious host and guide as he helped him try diverse dishes in one sitting from a country as vast as India. He revealed what was his favourite dish and said that he enjoyed having a hearty conversation with the Bollywood actor. Eric said:
"Ayushmann was such a gracious and welcoming host! I am an avid foodie and being able to try these diverse dishes in one sitting with Ayushmann as my guide was truly wonderful. I love India and it was so much fun tasting every corner of your country’s incredible food palate. My favourite dish of the experience was chole and roti, and of course, the fun conversations I shared with Ayushmann were a blast. I really hope to be able to visit India very often to explore the vastness of this country’s cultures and beauties, and of course to have some more delicious foods!"

Eric Nam was in India to perform at the Lollapalooza music festival, which was held in Mumbai. The K-pop idol mesmerised the audience with his electric performances on songs like Don’t Leave Yet, and many more from his recent album, House On A Hill. He was accompanied by Indian singer, Armaan Malik to perform their collaborative track, Echo, which they produced with KSHMR. However, the most amusing moment from his Lollapalooza set was when he began with the introduction, "Hi, I'm Eric...Nam toh suna hi hoga!"
