Hollywood saw some big names walking down the aisle last decade. Here’s some of the most notable of the celebrity weddings.
America’s Sweethearts, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston kick started the decade with their $1 million wedding at in Malibu on July 29, 2000. It was extravagant with over 50,000 flowers for décor and fireworks, lobster and champagne at the reception. The guest list of 200 included the cast of “Friends”, Cameron Diaz and Salma Hayek. The bride looked gorgeous in a Lawrence Steele-designed silk tulle halter, full length wedding dress embellished with pearls and Manolo Blahnik sandals. The couple divorced in 2005.
Other famous couple that married in 2000 was Madonna and Guy Ritchie on December 22 in a century old Skibo Castle, a 7,000 acres estate in Scotland.
Madonna’s dress was by designer Stella McCartney, while Ritchie wore a kilt in keeping with his Scottish heritage. The wedding had a guest list including Gwyneth Paltrow, Donatella Versace, Sting, George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Robin Williams. Madonna and Ritchie too have now split.
The Beatle’s Paul McCartney married his second wife Heather Mills on June 11, 2002, at a church in a 17th-century Castle Leslie in Glaslough, Ireland.
The bride designed her fitted, lace wedding gown with Eavis & Brown of London. The reception was lavish with flowers from Holland, Indian vegetarian cuisine, vintage champagne and fireworks. Among the 300 guests were Ringo Starr and Sir Elton John. The cost of their wedding was reportedly $3.2 million; nothing compared to the $39 million that Heather got after an ugly divorce in 2006.
The Hollywood power couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had an elaborate ceremonial wedding at the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy on November 18, 2006.
Reportedly, Giorgio Armani designed clothes for the entire wedding party. The guest list included the who’s who of Bollywood – Will and Jada Smith, John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Jim Carrey, Steven Spielberg, David and Victoria Beckham among others.
Ending the decade on a high note, with a wedding in India on October 23, 2010 were Katy Perry and Russell Brand at a luxury resort in Rajasthan, outside Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary.
With a fusion of Indian wedding traditions and Catholic customs, their wedding was probably the most spectacular wedding the past decade, with elephants, Rajasthani folk musicians and sacred Vedic chanting. It was a multi-day celebration with a Bollywood-themed pre-wedding party, safaris and colourfulIndian outfits.
Other memorable celebrity weddings of the last decade include Jennifer Lopez-Marc Anthony in 2004 in an intimate ceremony at her home, Demi Moore-Ashton Kutcher in 2005, Nicole Kidman-Keith Urban in 2006 in Australia and Eva Longoria-Tony Parker in 2007 at Church of Saint Germain l'Auxerrois in Paris and the reception was at Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte of France.
Another castle wedding was of Elizabeth Hurley-Arun Nayar, who exchanged vows in Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire and had a big, fat Indian wedding with Hindu ceremonies in Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur in March 2007.
