This is going to put a smile on every shy, nerdy and romantically-challenged guy’s face—the epitome of geekiness on TV sitcoms, Raj Koothrappali has tied the knot with a Former Miss India. To be more precise, Kunal Nayyar, the man who plays Dr. Rajesh Koothrappali in the “The Big Bang Theory” has married Neha Kapur, who won the Femina Miss India pageant in 2006.
While as Koothrappali, Kunal is unable to utter a single, sensible word in the presence of women, he seems to be the exact opposite in real life. For the uninitiated, Kunal’s character has become rather popular, representing the average, Indian guy trying desperately to blend in the cultural fabric of the United States. Kunal also does the voice-over for Gupta—a funny, Indian character weaved in the 4th installment of the Ice Age movie franchise.
Neha Kapur is an established model apart from being an ex-Miss India. Her modeling portfolio includes shooting ads for premium brands like Tuscan Verve, Pantaloons, Red Tape and Sunsilk. She constantly walks the ramp for India’s top designers.
Kunal Nayyar and Neha got married in the traditional, Indian style. The wedding was hosted in New Delhi and was attended by nearly a 1,000 guests. The wedding theme was typically Punjabi with loud music and women dressed to the hilt in gorgeous sarees, sporting golden jewelery. Kunal made his grand entrance just like every Indian groom is supposed to—seated atop a white horse.
According to reports, Kunal and Neha first met in Delhi, during 2008. Unlike his extremely-hesitant TV incarnation, Koothrappali, Kunal was quick to make the first move, offering to buy a drink for the pretty lady. Kunal is said to have confessed that it was love at first sight for him.
The images of the wedding are both cute and slightly surprising. No one would have guessed that the oddly-dressed Koothrappali who is constantly picked upon for his inability to land an actual date is actually, quite a charmer. How else would you explain him dating a smoking-hot model who has many international cover-shoots to her name?
