Sonakshi Sinha's performance in the series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was indeed commendable, and it helped her receive immense love from not only her friends but also from several acclaimed stars. The series, featuring Manisha Koirala, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sharmin Segal as lead characters, was set in the pre-independence era of India. Among all of them, Sonakshi's performance was one of the top-notch ones, and it even made the legendary actress, Rekha a fan of hers within seconds.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sonakshi Sinha opened up about the response she got for her performance in the series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. She mentioned that during the special screening of the series, Rekha was immensely mesmerised by her acting skills, even though she watched only two episodes. Thus, the veteran actress started showering her with praise during the series premiere. Not only that, Rekha was so impressed by Sonakshi that she even called herself her second mother.

In the same chat, Sonakshi talked about Rekha's endearing gesture of calling herself the former's second mom. The Heeramandi actress mentioned that Rekha impacted the former's work in the series and expressed her admiration for the same to her mother, Poonam Sinha, who is also a good friend of the veteran actress. And Rekha's words had simply left Sonakshi completely speechless. Sonakshi said:
“She told my mom that she is my second mom. And when my mom and I were there, she told my mom, 'She's my daughter, not your daughter.' Her words mean so much because she herself, you know, with her body of work, and the diva that she is and how beautiful she is as a person, it just feels amazing to hear that from someone like her.”
In October 2023, Rekha, the Sinha family, including Shatrugan Sinha, Poonam Sinha and Sonakshi Sinha, Anupam Roy and many other celebrities from the B-town graced the wedding reception party of the co-founder of Wizcraft International Entertainment Pvt., Andre Timmins' son, Leslie Timmins. In a video from the same event, we spotted Sonakshi escorting Rekha towards the stage prepared for the celebs to pose for the paps. Therein, the ever-so-green actress also showed her respect for Sonakshi's father by touching his feet, and then was seen hugging his wife, Poonam. The glimpses from the event proved Rekha's bond with the Sinhas, and this was unmissable.

However, there was a time when there was a rift between Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha during the making of Rakesh Roshan's film, Khoon Bhari Maang. As per multiple reports, they were also not on talking terms to each other for years. Later, in an interview with Zoom, Shatrughan Sinha addressed the cold war reports between him and Rekha. He mentioned that this was because they had different opinions. He admitted that he made uncharitable remarks about Rekha at that time, which further caused a problem in his wife's friendship with the actress. Shatrughan said:
"We had a difference of opinion over some silly issue. After that we didn't speak to each other for more than twenty years. I did make digs about her. I shouldn't have. To her credit, Rekha never retaliated. She is a very large-hearted generous woman. It was none other than my better-half Shrimati Poonam Sinha. You see, Rekha and she were close friends. And my so-called cold war with Rekha was causing difficulties in my wife's friendship with Rekha. She patched us up for her own selfish reason. And I happily agreed to let bygones be bygones."
