In 1998, Salman Khan was shooting for the film, Hum Saath Saath Hain in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. During his time in the beautiful city, Salman had decided to go on a safari with his co-stars, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam Kothari and Sonali Bendre. However, it was during their safari in the Bhagoda Ki Dhani area located in Kankani village, which is located nearby Jodhpur that Salman had allegedly killed two blackbucks.

After the incident, the Bishnoi community, who was living in the Kankani village in Rajasthan had raised their voices against the actor and had appealed for strict action against Salman. The Bishnoi community is one of the few communities worldwide whose religion recognises the rights of animals and trees. The Bishnoi also consider blackbucks extremely sacred, as according to them, the animal is the reincarnation of their religious guru, Guru Bhagwan Jambeshwar.

The entire Bishnoi community follows the principles and commandments of their Guru Bhagwan Jambeshwar. Thus it was a personal loss for the community. After the judiciary system had reportedly given a clean chit to the actor in the blackbuck poaching case, the community had got disheartened, and that's when Lawrence Bishnoi had admitted that he would murder Salman Khan for killing their sacred blackbucks.

The actor was charged under section 9/51 of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. On April 10, 2006, a trial court had found Salman guilty in the blackbuck poaching case, and the actor was fined Rs. 25,000 and also five years of imprisonment. On August 24, 2007, Salman had challenged the decision in Jodhpur court, but it was rejected as the court had upheld the decision announced by the trial court.

However, after a lot of ups and downs in the case, Salman was granted bail in the blackbuck poaching case by the Jodhpur court on April 7, 2018. The High Court had also found Salman Khan clean in the case as the court had stated that there was no proper evidence that proved the actor's licensed gun had killed blackbucks.

According to reports, Salman Khan's security has been increased after the demise of Punjabi singer, Sidhu Moose Wala, as reports of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang looking to murder the actor are all over the news once again.
