With the perfect ending to the year 2017, the internet has been a delightful place for all of us lately and we should all thank the most wonderful couple, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. While their hush hush wedding was like a fairy tale, their grand reception ceremony was more of a traditional affair.
Virat and Anushka tied the knot in a secret destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy on December 11, 2017, and announced it the world with pictures and tweet. And once again, this couple has bowled everyone with their simplicity and charm. Yesterday (December 21, 2017), Anushka and Virat hosted a reception ceremony for their family and friends, and it was a high-security celebration in Durbar Hall of the Taj Hotel.
It was strictly for family and dignitaries, and moreover, it was high on security as Honourable Prime Minister of India Shree Narendra Modi was expected to grace the ceremony with his presence. The honourable Prime Minister greeted the newly-wedded couple with a sweet gesture by presenting red roses to them. Here are the pictures of the royalty, all in one frame:
The decor of the alfresco stage at the Taj glimmered with the glass-studded palace and white burning candle atop crystal fixtures gave it a picturesque set-up. It was also attended by Virat's close friends, Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina with their families. Check out some more pictures from the reception:
With the Sabyasachi ensembles, yet again, the couple were complementing each other in traditional outfits. Sabyasachi described their looks on his official Instagram account and this is what he has to say:
“I don’t think Indian brides feel complete without wearing the colour red in one of their functions. Anushka decided to wear red on her reception. And much to my absolute delight, it would be a red Benarasi saree. From the by-lanes of Peeli Kothi in Benaras. I was particularly excited about this look because I have seen an entire generation of Bengali women getting married in red Benarasi sarees. The red bindi, the sindoor and the mogras in her hair just made the look more potent and powerful. She chose to wear heritage uncut diamond choker and jhumkas from the Sabyasachi Bridal Jewelry collection. Bollywood can play a major role in spreading awareness about Indian textiles and handlooms. And I must say the occasion couldn’t be better. I know copies of this saree will flood the entire country in the next few months to come, which also means that a million weaver’s children will be back at school. All I can say is thank you Anushka!
Virat chose to complement his new bride in a very subtle and elegant manner. He wore a black textured silk signature bandhgala with the house buttons in 18k gold and a white silk kurta with hand-woven brocade churidaar. He teamed it with mojris from the Sabyasachi accessories line and a hand-embroidered antique Pashmina shawl from our ‘Kashmir Revival’ project.”
Next in line is the last function from their wedding ceremonies, is Mumbai reception on December 26 which is exclusively for their friends from the Bollywood and cricket fraternity. Following to which, the couple will fly off to South Africa where they will ring in the New Year together and then the husband and wife will get back to their professional commitments.
Yet again, this power couple has stunned everyone with their flawless look and the smile they had while posing for the paparazzi and shutterbugs. We wish this couple all the love and togetherness in life! After getting their Delhi reception looks, we just can’t wait to see them in their Mumbai reception looks.
