On August 12, 2020, Sanjay Dutt had announced a break from work for medical treatment and soon, it was confirmed that he is diagnosed with lung cancer. For the preliminary treatment, Sanjay is consulting the best doctors at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and if the latest reports are to be believed, he had procured a five-year visa for the US on medical grounds. Reportedly, Sanjay will fly to the US with his wife, Maanayata Dutt and sister, Priya Dutt, and will be admitted to the same hospital, where his mother, Nargis had battled pancreatic cancer.
Due to Sanjay Dutt’s cancer diagnosis, his family had a low-key Ganesh Chaturthi celebration at home. On Ganesh Chaturthi, Sanjay had given a glimpse of the celebrations by posting a beautiful picture with his wife, Maanayata Dutt, and had captioned the post as “The celebrations aren't as huge as they used to be every year but the faith in Bappa remains the same. I wish that this auspicious festival removes all the obstacles from our lives and bless us all with health and happiness. Ganpati Bappa Morya.” On which, his daughter, Trishala Dutt had commented with an array of hearts.
To mark Ganesh Chaturthi 2020, Maanayata Dutt posted an adorable all-smiling picture of her twins, Shahraan Dutt and Iqra Dutt. Striking the same post and wearing colour-coordinated outfits, Maanayata thanked God in her caption and wrote, “Sands are shifting.... God...protect your peace...answer your prayers #love #grace #positivity #dutts #ganpatibappamorya #beautifullife #thankyougod.” Trishala Dutt has sent her prayers through the comments section by posting an array of folded-hands emojis and a heart emoticon. In the latest development of Sanjay Dutt’s treatment in the US, a source had revealed to the Mid-Day that the actor has procured the visa and will soon head to New York for further treatment. The source had informed, "Sanju had applied for the visa as soon as he learnt of the diagnosis. However, initially, it wasn’t easy to get the clearance. He was acquitted in the 1993 Bombay Blasts but convicted in the arms act. US policies are if one is convicted in any case for 5 years and above, they just need a special waiver for getting the visa. Fortunately, one of his close friends helped the actor secure a five-year visa on medical grounds. He is expected to fly to New York with Maanayata and Priya, where he will pursue treatment at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre."
For the uninitiated, Sanjay Dutt has a family history of battling with cancer as his mom, Nargis Dutt had succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 1981 and his first wife, Richa Sharma too, had brain tumour. Even Sanjay's mother, Nargis Dutt and his first wife, Richa Sharma had gone to the US for treatment. During their respective treatments, Sanjay had juggled between India and the US, managing his professional commitments and personal life.
Post the cancer diagnosis of Sanjay Dutt, Maanayata Dutt had issued a statement wherein she had thanked everyone for their wishes, spoke about life’s another challenge and urged everyone to stop speculating the stage of his illness. Here’s an excerpt of her statement, “For those asking, Sanju will complete his preliminary treatment in Mumbai. We will formulate further plans of travel depending on how and when the covid situation eases. As of now, Sanju is in the best hands of our esteemed doctors at Kokilaben hospital. I request everyone, with my folded hands, to stop speculating the stage of his illness and let the doctors continue to do their work. We will update you all regularly with his progress.” (Also Read: Maanayata Dutt On Having A Difficult Time Being Accepted By Sanjay's Sisters [Throwback Interview])
