Ever since Anushka Sharma had swooned us with her pastel pink lehenga, Sabyasachi Mukherjee became the dream designer for every bride-to-be. Her delicate dainty look had left us in awe! Wearing a Sabyasachi ensemble for her big day is every girl’s dream come true moment and her happiness knows no bounds when she walks down the aisle in the dreamiest bridal look. With an experience of over two decades, Sabyasachi is an iconic legend when it comes to bridal wear given the versatility in his designs, you name it and he delivers it.
Have you ever wondered what makes a South Indian bride special? Is it prettiest rani haars, glimmering temple jewels, tresses adorned in beautiful gajras or the priceless and timeless sarees? Well, all the aforementioned points make a South Indian bride stand out but if we were to pick one, then it would definitely be her choice of outfit as they experiment while sticking to the traditional ways and yet never fail to impress us. Meet our bride of the week, Gouthami Devan, who tied the knot with Zenith in a dual wedding ceremony in Kochi.
And when Sabyasachi is roped in to make a bride’s day special, then needless to say, the result has got be ‘perfection’. It was Gouthami’s mother who wanted her to be a Sabyasachi bride so she opted for a beautiful traditional red saree from the designer’s Kanchipuram collection and teamed it with ethnic gold jewellery. Gouthami accentuated her bridal look with an Oddiyanam, which is a thick broad gold belt with intricate and detailed design, matha patti and temple jewellery including layered necklaces, bangles and rings. Looking no less than a South Indian star, Gouthami completed her look with a traditional gajra. The groom complemented his bride in a classic white sherwani, as a perfect contrast to Gouthami’s bridal look. All thanks to their official wedding photographers, Lumiere Wedding Company, who captured the beautiful moments and we bet, you'll be as amazed by the pictures as we are.
In an interview with Wed Me Good, Gouthami Devan had revealed how she met the love of her life, Zenith and had thrown some light on their journey of love. On how their love blossomed over the years, Gouthami had remarked, "Zenith and I work as flight attendants with an international airline so our first meeting was about 6 years ago in a flight to Istanbul. It was my third flight after joining the firm. He was our senior attendant among the crew so we all quickly had an intro session before we took off the flight. I still remember he walked over and said “Hi I am Zenith, your cabin supervisor, you must be new” and shook his hand, I swear his sweet smile and breathtaking looks just swept me off my feet. From then on we constantly kept on checking out each other in the entire flight as he walked up and down the cabin and kept attending the passengers till the time we landed.”
How a five hour flight brewed a life long relationship, Gouthami Devan had continued, “And anyway it was just work and we couldn’t interact much beyond work so as I was about to take an exit from the cabin, he called me and asked if I was hungry, and slowly moved a cup with tiramisu towards me. I think that was the moment! Didn’t realise how a 5 hours flight turned into 5 years relationship!" How her mother and sister helped with the wedding planning, Gouthami Devan had shared, “Well, working overseas and managing everything back home in India is quite difficult sometimes but for us, it wasn’t a task as our wedding planning and everything were taken care of my sister and my mother. Zenith and I were all relaxed and didn’t have stress as my sister became the official stylist of our wedding. She was the one who took care of my and Zenith’s outfit, my jewellery and mom decided which event planner and photography we should go with which again wasn’t difficult as we had thought that we would go with the best people in the event industry. One thing that we kept in mind was everything would be authentic and traditional. And as I said we wanted everything the best, so with the venue.”
How things went into place with the perfect venue, themed outfits and decor and how #GoZen trended on social media, Gouthami Devan had stated, “We chose Grand Hyatt Kochi bolgatty to celebrate our three important days. Christian wedding we knew that we had to do it the Syrian Christian way, from rituals to food and also the decor, as zenith hails from Kottayam part of Kerala. For the sangeet, we wanted a proper North Indian theme. From the decor to guests outfit and Guests grooving to only Bollywood hits. We had a colour theme of pink and yellow for women and made sure all the women were dressed in lehengas and men in blue kurta pyjamas. The sangeet stage was customised to our theme, and a quirky photo booth personally designed by my sister. So she designed an open book of love with a stairway that looked a page straight out of a novel. And made sure our hashtag #gozen was everywhere.”
Speaking how grand was their Hindu wedding, Gouthami Devan had shared, “Finally the Hindu wedding, my mother was particular about me becoming a Sabyasachi bride so I chose a red saree from his Kanchipuram collection with ethnic gold jewellery. About the decor - Kerala theme for the Hindu wedding so we had Kathakali artists at the entryway to welcome guests. Our caricature cut out was designed with the same outfit we were wearing on the wedding day. We had elephants with trunks up either side which depicted good luck and prosperity. We had an elaborate golden mandap as the stage.”
Do you know the South Indian girls, Gouthami Devan and her sister had performed on the Punjabi song, Meri Mummy Nu Pasand just before the former walked down the aisle and to say we were hooked to the chemistry of this sister duo would be an understatement! In a wedding highlight video, her sister talked about how Gouthami has changed for the better after meeting Zenith. Check out both the videos here:
