Veteran actor, Dharmendra still enjoys a massive fan following, owing to his exceptional acting skills and his angry young man look during his era. In the 70s, the entire nation had fallen in love with the Dream GirlHema Malini and Dharmendra ji too had felt the same for her, in fact, he had topped the list. It is said that Dharmendra and Hema's love for each other was so pure and strong that they had defied all the odds and had conquered over society's raised eyebrows. We all know that Dharmendra had tied the knot with Prakash Kaur in the year 1957 and has four children, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Ajeeta Deol and Vijeeta Deol from his first marriage. Despite it, the actor had married Hema ji and had converted his religion into Islam, so that he could keep his two marriages.

Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur

The Sholay couple, Dharmendra and Hema Malini had tied the knot in 1979 and Dharm ji's decision had left his first wife, Prakash Kaur and his kids in utter shock. Back then, it was reported that Dharm ji’s elder son, Sunny Deol was agitated knowing this and he had gone after Hema Malini once, raising many eyebrows. Later it was Prakash Kaur, who in an interaction with Stardust, had rubbished the rumours. She had said that she and her kids were surely in utter shock with Dharm ji’s second marriage, but nothing of this sort had ever happened as she had given her kids a good upbringing and taaleem. Though both Sunny and Bobby were upset with their father’s decision, this did not hamper the father-son relationship.

Dharmendra

As we mentioned earlier, Prakash Kaur had defended her husband, Dharm ji for his second marriage. In the same interview, she had reacted about her husband being tagged as a womaniser. She had said, “Why only my husband, any man would have preferred Hema to me. How dare anyone call my husband a womaniser when half the industry is doing the same thing? All heroes are having affairs and getting married a second time.” Sympathising with Hema Malini, she had added, “I can understand what Hema is going through. Even she has to face the world, her relatives and her friends. But if I were in Hema’s place, I would not have done what she did. For, as a woman, I can understand her feelings. But as a wife and a mother I do not approve of them."

Prakash had further opened up on Dharam ji and had said, "He (Dharam) is the first love and the last man in my life. He is the father of my children. I love and respect him a lot. What has happened has happened. I don't know whether I should blame him or my destiny for it. But one thing is certain, however far he may be from me, whatever might happen, but if I need him, I know that he'll be there. I have not lost my trust in him. After all, he is the father of my children."
