SS Rajamouli is one of the most revered names in the Indian film industry. He is widely regarded and known for making the epic drama film Bahubali. Undoubtedly, the lengths and epic scale tow which this director goes is leaps and bounds ahead than any of his contemporaries.
But, not many know about his personal life. Born on October 10, 1973, as Koduri Srisaila Sri Rajamouli in Raichur village of Karnataka, Rajamouli’s life beyond cinema is not unravelled properly. And today, we dig into a very personal aspect of his life- his love story.
SS Rajamouli is married to Rama Rajamouli since the year 2001. They have 2 children – SS Karthikeya from Rama’s first marriage and SS Mayookha, their adopted daughter. So, let’s unveil this immensely talented director’s love life.
Rama comes from a family of esteemed film personalities. She is music director MM Keeravani’s (Rajamouli’s cousin) wife Sreevalli’s younger sister. Because Rajamouli was in the films, assisting many directors and working mainly on the sets, he knew his would-be wife for quite a long time.
It is said that around the year 2000, Rama and her husband filed for a divorce with each other. Their only son SS Karthikeya was left in the custody of her mother as per court’s judgement. Around this time, he supported Rama a lot, and always took her side.
Eventually, Rajamouli realised that his feelings towards Rama were only growing day by day. And one day, he proposed her. The two got married in court in a very private affair.
One day, while Rajamouli was working on a film, he was disappointed with his costume designer. However, he wasn’t able to figure out what was it that he didn’t like about the costumes. His wife immediately came to his rescue and told him exactly what he wanted to hear.
Since then, Rama has consistently been designing costumes for most of Rajamouli’s films. In many her interviews, she has always said that she didn’t become a costume designer because she wanted to, but because her husband wanted to work with someone who could read his mind.
Rama has always been vocal about her husband’s genius approach towards his art. She once said:
“He has a command over each department. He’s the captain of the ship literally. He’s very clear about what exactly he wants and how to get it.”
And not just professionally, they are happily married and spend lots of time together. They give equal time to their children, and it's a perfectly happy space.
