Popular actress, Sonam Bajwa opened up about the ingrained sexism prevalent in many homes. Sonam also shared a few bitter experiences when she also had to face the same at her home. For the unversed, Sonam is the winner of the title holder of the 2020 PTC Punjabi Film Awards for Best Actress for her stunning performance in the film, Ardab Mutiyaran. Apart from Punjabi films, Sonam now works in the Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil industries. The stunning actress will be next seen in her upcoming movie, Godday Godday Chaa, which generally talks about the inequality faced by women inside their homes.
In an interview with Indianexpres.com, Sonam Bajwa opened up about facing ingrained sexism at home. Sharing how her story relates to most of the families of North India, Sonam also shared a when she had to work while her brother played outside. The actor shared that her brother was not even taught the basic kitchen chores by her mother, while she had to do all starting from a young age. Sonam shared:
“I think we have all faced it since childhood as sons and daughters are treated differently. Sons can go out, spend the night outside their homes while women are not allowed to do it. I do understand where it comes from- they are more protective of you than boys. However, I think this inequality is ingrained deep in our society. Girls are expected to know how to cook while boys manage to get away. I remember my mother forcing me to be in the kitchen, even in the heat, while my brother would play. I was asked to help but he wasn’t taught how to do basic kitchen chores.”

In the same conversation, Sonam also discussed inequality at the domestic and professional levels. Hinting at the pay disparity and importance of women-centric roles, she mentioned that the audiences’ taste has evolved, and they are looking for something fresh. Then, Sonam revealed how the roles played by her and her brother have reversed now. She shared that now her brother stays in Canada and isn't provided with any househelp over there. Thus, she now pinches her mother by saying that this is her revenge from her brother. Sonam added:
“He is in Canada, and they do not have house help there. He has to cook and clean on his own. That is my badla (revenge). I do tell my mother that had you taught him then, it would have been beneficial for him. I really felt bad as a kid when I used to face these things.”
One of the most popular actresses in the Punjabi Film industry, Sonam Bajwa began her career in 2013 with the Punjabi film, Best of Luck. However, in an interview with Siddharth Kanan, Sonam had opened up about being sidelined in the Punjabi film industry. Talking about the same, Sonam stated how makers would remove her from a film and not even let her know, so over the years, it doesn't affect her anymore. In the same interview, the actress revealed that the Punjabi film industry had cut her off completely. But she still didn’t lose hope and bounced back.

Sonam Bajwa is also hailed for her amazing fashion sense. For instance, when she graced the red carpet of HT India’s Most Stylish awards, it was once again Sonam's look which made heads turn. She donned a 3D wet sea-blue-coloured body-hugging gown. Blushed cheeks, glossy lips and open wavy curls gave her a classy look. The 3D-printed wet dress was from the brand, Syndical Chamber’s wet couture, which came with a price tag of 1250 Euros, i.e., approximately Rs. 1.12 lakhs.
