Getting judged for your dark complexion is something that a lot of people have faced in their lives at least once. Most of the time we associate such judgements with girls, who get rejected from the boy's side of the family for her skin colour. However, it was the other way round for Shatrughan Sinha, as had faced something like this before getting married to Poonam Sinha.
Shatrughan Sinha, who had won the hearts of millions of girls with his acting and the way he used to say khamosh, had lost his heart to actress, Poonam Chandiramani. It was after a lot of efforts and wooing that the actor could get married to his soulmate as they tied the knot on July 9, 1980. The duo is blessed with twin sons, Luv and Kush and a daughter, Sonakshi Sinha.

Recently, the actor-turned-politician, Shatrughan Sinha and his wife, Poonam Sinha graced the reality show, Indian Idol 12. While the contestants paid tribute to 'Shotgun' Sinha, one of them called him handsome. Replying to the same, Shatrughan Sinha jokingly said that his wife, Poonam would not agree to it and stated the reason behind it.
On the show, Shatrughan Sinha shared that his saasu maa had rejected him because of his skin colour when he had proposed Poonam Sinha for marriage. He said, "Maine apni shaadi ke liye proposal bheja tha. Toh meri late and great mother-in-law ne, unhone mujhe nakaar kar dia tha, ek dum reject kar diya tha."

Shatrughan Sinha further stated that his mother-in-law was sceptical about giving her fair daughter's hand to a dark-complexioned guy. Remembering the same, he said, "Wo kehte the kyun main isse apni beti ki shaadi karau, Meri beti itni gori-chiti sundar hai. Tumhara bhai itna kaaliya hai… In dono ko saath khada karke colour photograph bhi kheechenge toh black and white ka effect aayega. Ye kehke reject kar diya tha."
Earlier, when Shatrughan Sinha had visited The Kapil Sharma Show in 2019, he had stated that when his elder brother, Ram Sinha and director, NN Sippy went to Poonam's house, his mother-in-law had not only outrightly rejected the rishta but was also very disappointed with them for coming up with the proposal.

For the unversed, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha will be completing 41 years of marital bliss on July 9, 2021.
