Shahid Kapoor is the son of Neelima Azeem and her ex-husband, Pankaj Kapur. The ex-couple had parted ways when Shahid was only three years old. Since then, he has lived with his mother, Neelima, who single-handedly raised her and Ishaan Khatter (Neelima's other son from her second marriage with Rajesh Khattar). Shahid has also seen Rajesh as a father figure in his life for the longest amount of time until the latter separated from Neelima. Amidst all, Shahid shared a special bonding with his mother, Neelima. Once again, the actor opened up about a hilarious anecdote from his and Neelima's life.
In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shahid Kapoor revealed his gratitude towards his mother, Neelima Azeem for single-handedly looking after him and his half-brother, Ishaan Khatter. However, he mentioned a hilarious anecdote from his and Neelima's life. He mentioned that the actor son sometimes doesn't talk with his mother. This is because she is always extremely positive about Shahid. Despite the doting son asking her to criticize him, the loving mommy can't do so. Elaborating the same, he said:
"But, you know she is a single parent. Me and Ishaan are born and brought up by her and we can never repay what parents do for us. She has always been so positive and loving, she has been a trooper for me and Ishaan. There are times when I have to tell my mom that, ‘Mom I am not going to talk to you for a few days because you’re saying so many good things and I am thinking that I am too good’. I need a little criticism you know. But, she comes from the best possible place.”

However, in the same conversation, Shahid mentioned that these are his private matters. Thus, he does not want to talk much about these matters. Shahid concluded:
"I don’t like talking about those things in a matter of pride, they are very private things. I don’t think that needs to be shared. Mom has been there for me, we are all there for each other. That’s what family does. There’s nothing to make a big deal out of it.”
Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Shahid’s loving mother, Neelima Azeem talked about Shahid and his immense popularity. She revealed the first time he performed on the stage, he has already a star. She had elaborated:
“I came to Bombay and started working here, and received a lot of love and popularity myself. But Shahid took it to another level. He just took it to another level, his first film was a super duper hit, he became a youth icon. The first time we saw him perform, the entire team was like 'yeh bacha nahi hai yaar. Kya hai yeh! Kya karta hai yeh'. I saw Shahid growing as a dancer after that and he became an impeccable performer. After that, he just changed our lives. He took our lives forward in Bombay. We started living better, we had all the luxuries and comfort.

We had once got our hands on a throwback interview of Shahid Kapoor on Simmi Garewal’s show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. In a candid interview, the host of the show, Simmi revealed that Shahid has a special woman in his life. Then, a video of his mother, Neelima Azeem was shown. Moreover, in the video, Azeem opened up about an incident in which a ‘puny French guy’ was following her and before he could say anything to her, Shahid stood in front of him and said, “Excuse me, sir, before you talk to her, you have to deal with me”. The incident prooved the most special woman in Shahid's life is none other than his mother, Neelima.
