India has a proud lineage of its ‘Sons of the soil and daughters of the land’. They have always made us proud and continue to do so. From being a global sportsperson to a fashion icon, Sania has always topped the list whenever we talk about Indians who have made us proud. Rumours were abuzz for quite a while that Sania was pregnant with her first child from her husband-cricketer, Shoaib Malik. Sania, being one of the few celebs, herself shared the news of her pregnancy in a unique manner on social media. She posted an adorable picture with the caption, “#BabyMirzaMalik”, written on it. Today (May 23, 2018), Sania was snapped at the airport as she returned from her trip to Dubai. P.S., don’t miss the cute baby bump and the pregnancy glow on her face.
We love the way she is all smiles! Post her pregnancy confirmation, Sania was asked if she had planned for it. To this, the beautiful mommy-to-be told IANS over a phone, “It was just about time. I was down with my knee injury anyway and we had been thinking about it for a while. We thought it was a good time to start a family and experience this new phase of our lives”.
At a discussion on Gender Bias at Goa Fest, 2018, Sania shared details about the reason behind the child’s surname to be ‘Mirza-Malik’. She shared, “Today I will tell you a secret. My husband and I have spoken about it and we have decided that whenever we have a child, the child will have Mirza Malik as a surname and not just Malik. So that's where we stand as a family including my husband. He actually wants a daughter."
She further added, "I have not changed my surname (post marriage) and my name is still Sania Mirza and it will remain that way. The family name is going to go forward”.
Sania was also asked in an interview whether she would participate in 2020 Olympics. She replied, “The 2020 Olympics is a long way off. I’ve said this many times that as tennis players, we wish we knew what our lives brought us tomorrow. Having said that though, it definitely looks very doable right now. But one has to wait and watch where life really takes you. Most definitely, I would say coming back to playing is priority as soon as the pregnancy is done.” (Don't Miss! Will Sania be back to tennis like ever before? Hear it from the star herself, “My goal is obviously to come back and that’s the most important thing. Of course, my kid is very important in my life right now, but after that, I would like to come back to playing because it’s an example I’d like to set for my kid as well that you don’t give up on your dreams just because you’re pregnant.” Adding further, she said, “I am young enough to come back and still play and be the best that I can be.” We are totally sure about that, Sania!
Sania and Shoaib have been happily married since April 12, 2010 in Hyderabad Deccan (India). The couple is expecting their child in October.
