Preity Zinta Talks About Her Family's Battle With COVID-19, Says She Felt Helpless In America

The year 2020 had taught a lot of things to all of us. Most importantly, it had taught us to stay strong in the most adverse situations and value the things we have instead of being a part of the blind rat race. It had taught us the importance of our family and the need to nurture our relationships. Bollywood actress, Preity Zinta had a similar experience as her mother and brother had contracted the virus, and now she has opened up about the time when her family was battling with the virus. For the uninitiated, Preity Zinta had shifted her base to America after her marriage with Gene Goodenough in 2016. But it was last year, in 2018, that she had finally added her husband's surname to her name and had made it Insta-official. The actress had also tweeted the reason behind the change of her surname. She had written, "After marriage, I decided to take the G from my husband's name. One G is Goodenough for me. Ting!"

Preity Zinta has opened up about her mum, brother and other family members testing Covid 19 positive. Preity shared a selfie with her family on her IG handle and wrote how 'ventilators and ICU' took a whole new meaning for her in the year 2020. Her note can be read as "Three weeks ago my Mom, brother, his wife, kids & my uncle all tested positive for Covid. Suddenly terms like ventilators, ICU and oxygen machines took a new meaning. I felt helpless & powerless here in America, far away as he battled it out in the hospital. I'm so grateful to the almighty and to all those wonderful doctors & nurses that worked tireless to take care of the."

The actress also urged people to not take the virus lightly and said, "For all of you who don't take Covid seriously please be warned that this can become dangerous overnight so please take care, wear a mask & practice social distancing. Today, after hearing that they have all tested negative I can finally fall asleep & stop stressing. Finally, the New Year feels like a Happy New year #Thankyou #Doctors #Nurses #Grateful #Ting." Preity Zinta had kept herself safe throughout the year even though she had travelled a lot owing to the IPL tournament for which she had to fly back and forth from America to Dubai numerous times. On the occasion of Karwa Chauth, Preity had narrated the story of her longest Karwa Chauth as she had to back to America from Dubai to be with her husband. The actress had shared a cute picture from her wedding with husband, Gene Goodenough with her signature, dimpled smile. In the caption, she had revealed the story of her 'longest Karwa Chauth' and had written, "Happy Karvachauth to all of you who celebrated. For me it was the longest ever-started in Dubai, cruised among the clouds & landed in La. It was all worth it cuz I finally got to see my Patiparmeshwar. I love you my love. #Happykarvachauth #Patiparmeshwar #Ting."

In a throwback interview with The Indian Express in 2017, talking about marriage and women, Preity had said, "Women, in general, are superwomen. They take care of the home and work. They are very few men who do that. For me it is very simple, I am married, working and very happy. I am lucky that I am married to a person who actually pushed me into doing a movie. I thought I didn't want to do any more movies and I moved to the business side of life."
