When there’s a spring in your step, blush in your smile and butterflies in your stomach; then you’re living the most blissful phase of your life. Being in love is an experience that is incomparable to any other feeling. Love is like a flower that one must nurture carefully for it to blossom beautifully. One of the few not-so-perfect realities that one will have to accept for a long-lasting relationship, is to make peace with their partner’s past. On January 5, 2020, Neha Pendse had walked down the aisle with her fiancé, Shardul Singh Bayas and as per Maharashtrian rituals, they were pronounced husband and wife. For the wedding, Nehha had looked graceful as ever in a pastel-pink Nauvari saree and had accentuated her look with hair tied in a bun, adorned with flowers, pearl and jadau jewellery, a crescent moon bindi, a traditional nath and green bangles. Shardul had complemented his bride in an off-white and pink-coloured sherwani and a matching safa.
Post her wedding, Nehha Pendse had made a revelation about her husband, Shardul Singh Bayas’ past and had revealed that he has two kids from his previous two failed marriages. Since then, Nehha is surrounded with questions about the same by the media, and in an interview with the Bombay Times, she reacts to it with a question, “What’s the big deal about this?” Nehha continued, “Today, many of us are getting married late because of various reasons, including the focus on career. A lot of people end up having more than one relationship before finally tying the knot. The commitment, love and physical proximity could be the same as it is in a marriage, the only difference is that there is no legal stamp over it. So, why are people talking about Shardul being a divorcee?”
Saluting her husband, Shardul Singh Bayas for his undying faith in the institution of marriage, Nehha Pendse added, “It’s not that I am a virgin either. I appreciate the fact that he took chances with women he was in love with, unlike in my case where the men disappeared just when the relationship could have culminated into marriage. At least, Shardul is not commitment-phobic. I salute him for his undying faith in the institution of marriage, it is easy to not believe in it after two failed marriages. That shows that he is a man of substance unlike those who fear the idea of getting married. I also feel that if a marriage is not working out, one should end it rather than drag on.”
Sharing that they both have accepted each other’s past wholeheartedly, Nehha Pendse stated, “I knew that this would come up at some point and was open to talking about it. Shardul and I have accepted each other’s past wholeheartedly, so there is no fear of talking about it. As I had mentioned in my previous interview to BT, we would hardly have romantic conversations during the initial months of our relationship; there was a lot of talking, but about our lives. Both of us are damaged and hence, careful and sensitive about our relationship.”
Revealing that she has met Shardul’s first wife and his two children and is in fact, friends with his elder daughter on social media, Nehha Pendse remarked, “His first marriage ended around 10 years ago and second, five years ago. They (his first wife and daughters) were gracious enough to meet me and I realised that their relationship had ended amicably. They were young when they got married and made some mistakes. Nehha Pendse believes that her husband, Shardul Singh Bayas won’t make the mistakes that a rookie husband might and that she is a practical person and her expectations from the marriage are realistic. Nehha concluded by saying, “Let’s be honest. Who knows what the future holds for us? I am extremely practical and aware of the fact that anything can go wrong even in a seemingly strong relationship. I have been married for just a few days, and can’t predict how things can change in a few years. All I can say is, I am open to embracing everything that life has to offer me. Janam-janam ka saath is restricted to just films, real life is a lot more than that. On the positive side, I think Shardul won’t make the mistakes that a rookie husband might. He knows better what works in a marriage and what doesn’t. He will know before me when we have headed in the wrong direction and will guide me through it.”
Nehha Pendse’s pre-wedding functions had begun with the ‘grahmukh puja’ and the then-soon-to-be bride had taken to her Instagram to share the glimpses. Dressed in traditional Marathi attire, Neha had looked resplendent in a beige and red-coloured saree with a pearl mundavlya on her forehead. For the sangeet ceremony, Nehha and Shardul had colour-coordinated in multi-coloured ensembles. And for their engagement, Neha had looked stunning in a forest green fit and flare gown while her fiancé, Shardul complemented her in a suit.
Nehha Pendse’s engagement gown took a massive total of 2208 hours to create.
