Mix And Match Gold With Other Metals

Questions: I am getting married this December. Preparations are already on for the wedding. My parents and relatives are after me to lock on the jewellery designs so that they can place the making order in advance. They are hard pressed on gold ornaments. I know the significance of gold in case of a wedding. It is considered pious and a divine metal to start a new life with. But I am not that comfy with the metal. Given a choice, I would love to wear silver, diamond or platinum jewellery. So can I go in for other metals too? Or is it extremely necessary to stick to gold given its sacred implications?

Answer: For centuries, gold have been one metal that dominated the wedding scene. It is associated with Gods as they used to don it compulsively, hence its divine significance. But there are no hard and fast rule to adorn it. You can go for other metals as well. But it will be wonderful if you can maintain a tinge of gold in your ornaments for the wedding. Pair it up with different metals and get gorgeous.

Wear a combination of metals on your wedding if you don’t intend to stick to gold. For instance, your maangtika can be all gold while you can have your rings of diamond. Go for shiny silver anklets.

For necklaces, get a gold plated one embedded with precious stones like gems, emeralds or may be diamond. In addition to gold, you have your pick of other metals too.

You can wear silver bangles studded with semi-precious stones. To add shimmer to it you can go in for heavy gold bangles in low numbers. This will add density to your wrist in terms of jewellery. If kamar bandh are your thing, you can wear a complete silver make up.

But always remember when you wear jewellery that drape your body, see to it that it is in sync with your wedding dress. If you are wearing a lehenga with silver thread embroidery, you kamar bandh might get obliterate. So prefer contrasting combinations.
