Malaika Arora had added the surname ‘Khan’ to her name post her marriage with Arbaaz Khan but in 2016, they had taken the most difficult decision of their lives and had started living separately. In 2017, Malaika and Arbaaz were finally granted divorce and in late 2018, the former had removed the surname ‘Khan’ from her name. Malaika and Arbaaz are blessed with a son, Arhaan Khan and the two have decided to co-parent their 17-year-old boy. On Neha Dhupia’s podcast show, No Filter Neha, Malaika Arora revealed that she had resumed work within 40 days of delivering her son. Something that was completely new back then, Malaika had broken the stereotypes and stated, “I worked before, I worked through, I worked right after, exactly 40 days after. I took that 40 days off of my baby because my mom was like 'No you have to!'. Malaika Arora also talked about how working throughout the pregnancy was actually amazing back then with nobody knowing or talking about it. Malaika continued, “You know this is so far back. My son is 17 years old. It’s amazing to see so many women today you know who are mothers, who work right through their pregnancy and after because otherwise everybody thinks it’s 'Chalo pack up karke niklo'. So I guess back then when I actually worked throughout, it was pretty amazing, nobody actually knowing about it or talking about it because there was no such platform to talk about it but yeah I remember I first started off with full length, then I went mid, then I went 3/4 and then waist and then bust and then neck till then it was only one eye, one mouth, one lip, one ear.”
On Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio talk show, What Women Want, Malaika Arora had spoken about how her ‘unhappy’ relationship with Arbaaz Khan had impacted everyone around them. Malaika had stated, “We were just two people in a situation where we were making each other extremely unhappy, which was impacting everyone else’s life around us.” Revealing how her son, Arhaan had reacted on his parents’ divorce, Malaika had said that with time he has become far more accepting and flourishing. And he could also see the difference in his parents how happy they both look now. Malaika had recalled how her son, Arhaan told her once, "Mom, you look happy", a few months after their divorce.
In an interview with ZoomTV.com, Malaika Arora had revealed if her son, Arhaan Khan wants to join the industry and become an actor like his star family. She had stated, "He just has an affinity to films, that's because he is grown up in an environment of films. He loves watching films. He likes following films. He likes the concept of films. But what he wants to do with that, I really don't know. I don't think any of us know that just yet because he is not sure just yet. How and when it pans out, we will figure it out then."
