Television actor, Ali Mercchant is currently a contestant in Kangana Ranaut's controversial show, Lock Upp, and he is also one of the strongest participants in the show. Recently, in one of the latest episode of the show, he revealed the reason behind parting ways with his second wife, Anam, which is related to his profession as a prominent DJ. For the unversed, apart from his acting stint in more than 35 television serial dramas, Ali is also known as a DJ, an anchor and a music producer.
Coming to his personal life, Ali Mercchant had first married a television actress, Sara Khan, in 2010 on the sets of the controversial reality show, Bigg Boss 4. However, things had soon fallen apart, and they had eventually parted ways. Later, Ali had married for the second time an investment banker, Anam, however, as per reports, he had also separated from her in December 2021.

In the latest episode of the reality show, Lock Upp, all the contestants were given a 'Do or Die' situation where they were asked either to reveal a secret or get evicted from the show. For the unversed, all the contestants had revealed secrets to the show makers before entering the show, and this time, they were asked to reveal one amongst them to save themselves from eviction. For completing this task, Ali Mercchant was shown the option 'divorce', to which the actor opened up about the reasons behind his separation from his second wife, Anam. Ali mentioned that Anam belonged to an orthodox family and thus had a problem with his DJing and nightlife. He further added that she wanted him to do something else in his professional life and said:
"I always wanted to get married and I got into an arranged marriage in 2016. In December 2021, we got separated. What happened was, the girl whom I married, is from a very orthodox family. I had begun DJing at the time and nightlife is a difficult industry for Muslim families to be in. I also did small businesses. She did not want me to be in night life, she wanted me to be in business or actor."
Ali Mercchant and Anam were married for four to five years before they had finally parted their ways. Further, in the conversation, Ali mentioned that Anam had never respected his career and wanted him to quit it. He added that their life philosophies didn't match, and they were even not compatible with having a kid. Ali added:
"Suddenly my DJing took off well and it began paying well for me to sustain the family. At times I got opportunity to do concerts and got a few big chances. I was like 'respect what I do' but she was like 'what are you even doing?' She wanted me to quit DJing and be an actor. Some of my friends suggested that we should have a kid but we were not compatible. Our life philosophies did not match."

Earlier, Ali Mercchant's first wife, Sara Khan was also seen as one of the contestants in the controversial celebrity reality show, Lock Upp. However, she was evicted after a few episodes. While her stay over there, Sara and Ali were seen indulging in many intense war of words over their past and accusing one another with many hurtful remarks. In one of the episodes, while on one side, Sara had told her ex-husband to stop meddling with her as she couldn't come out from the trauma she was suffering because of him in her life. Sara had said, “Tu mujhe bata raha hai ki mai apni life mein settle nahi ho paayi, jisne sabse zyada meri zindagi barbaad ki.” In reply to this, Ali had taken a dig at Sara's personal life and had mentioned:
"Tumne khudne meri life bahut zyada barbaad ki. Mujhe bhi pata chal raha hai tum kaisi chal rahi thi, isliye khud settle nahi ho paayi."
