Indians went in for a momentary shock when they heard of Tej Pratap filing for a divorce against wife, Aishwarya Rai. Hardly 6 months into their marital bliss, Tej has decided to part ways with his wife on grounds of ‘incompatibility’ and 'cruelty'. So much so, that he feels that living with his wife is similar to that of living with misery! News wire ANI quoted Tej as saying, “It is true that I have filed a petition. Ghut-ghut ke jeene se toh koi fayeda hai nahi (No point living a life of misery).”
In an interview with Republic TV, Tej shared some interesting details about his marriage with Aishwarya. Stating that it was a ‘forced’ one, the RJD chief shared, “Aishwarya is from a high society, and I was forcefully married to her. There is no compatibility between us. When there was a fight between us, Aishwarya was the one who told me get divorced. I never wanted to marry her as I am a religious person. But on the wishes of my parents, I married her. My sister's had also asked me to not marry, but I was forced to. I even told my father that there was no compatibility between us, but no one heard me. Tej shared that he is determined about his divorce and that he will not even listen to the Prime Minister if he asks him to rethink about his marriage. He revealed, “I have taken this decision in full conscience and have filed the petition. The arrow is out of the bow now, I will not budge. I will not listen to my father who I am going to meet. Even if the Prime Minister says, I won't back down. I know everyone is after me. I have even told Tejashwi that my compatibility with Aishwarya is not there at all. She studied in from Miranda House and Amity in Delhi while I studied at Patna University. I am religious person, and I go to Vrindavan always.”
Coming back to incompatibility issues, Tej Pratap’s lawyer Yashwant Kumar Sharma stated, “I cannot give much details. I was only told by my client that he and his wife were not compatible and hence he wanted a divorce.” He further stated, “They couldn't get along. An application under Hindu Marriage Act was filed through me on behalf of Tej Pratap Yadav. I can't say anything else at this moment." A source to the couple informed PTI, “The divorce sought by Tej Pratap is a big blow to the RJD family, which is already battling legal cases in various scams. Tej and Aishwarya had gotten married on May 12, 2018 at a lavish wedding ceremony. Post their marriage, Tej had tweeted the following sentence thanking everyone for the love showered upon him and Aishwarya, “Had we expected that lakhs of people would come to shower their blessings on the couple in the presence of Lalu Prasad Yadav, we would have organised the wedding at a bigger venue like Gandhi Maidan. Forgive us for whatever trouble you faced. Thank you again.”
