Bringing a change in society by not adhering to the societal norms and breaking the stereotypes is a difficult path to walk on. Whenever someone tries to do something differently, he/she is pressurised by society and are judged for their actions. Motherhood is no different and society becomes judgemental when a mother doesn’t follow the stereotypical way to raise her child. In modern times, working mothers face the wrath of society when they leave their child for work and are compared to stay-at-home mothers. Let’s hear from the mother of two wonderful kids, Kajol about her experiences with motherhood and the myth related to it. It was in 2001 when Kajol was pregnant with her first child during the shoot of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... but had lost her child after suffering a miscarriage. Then in 2003, when she was her expecting Nysa Devgan, she had made a special appearance in the film, Kal Ho Naa Ho for the song, Maahi Ve. Post the birth of her daughter, Kajol had taken a sabbatical from work and focussed on her baby girl. Seven years later, in 2010, Kajol and Ajay Devgn had welcomed their second child, Yug Devgan and she had again taken a sabbatical of five years before making a comeback in 2015 with Dilwale.
Mother of two kids, Kajol has an experience of motherhood for close to two decades now and being a working mother, she spoke about how a woman is tagged as a good or a bad mom. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Kajol said, "If you don't cook for your child, go to pick up your child from school, you're a bad mother if you don't attend one PTA meeting, you're a bad mother... So, there are too many things that make you a bad mom and not enough that makes you a good mom." As a working mother, Kajol praised stay-at-home moms and continued, "I always look at them with this awe, I really don't know how they manage to make it look so effortless!"
Addressing the myth about how working mothers don't dedicate enough time to their children, Kajol revealed that every mother, who works, thinks this at some point in her life. Kajol revealed that even if you ask the kids, "It's never about 'oh you don't love me enough'. You just have to convince your parent that you love them enough and that they make up your world." Adding that she doesn't believe in self-help books at all, Kajol asserted, "The only thing a parenting book will teach you is to tie a nappy! Not how to wash the bum, or pick up your child when she's crying." (Also Read: Kajol Opened Up About The One Important Parenting Lesson She Learnt From Her Mother, Tanuja)
Just like any parent, Kajol too, dotes on her kids, Nysa Devgan and Yug Devgan and her social media handle is proof of the same. On Christmas 2020, Kajol had posted a picture of a wall with her family portraits on it and the festive décor. Kajol’s pictures with hubby, Ajay, kids, Nysa and Yug, mother, Tanuja and sister, Tanisha Mukerji were enough to spread the festive cheer. Kajol had captioned her post as “Someone pointed out to me that the way we run the world is changing and only for the better, but in the meanwhile we will have to go through the really shitty adjustment period. To a better world and a better tomorrow! That’s my wish for this Christmas #ComplimentsOfTheSeason.”
On April 20, 2020, to mark Nysa Devgan’s 17th birthday, Kajol Devgan had posted a video which comprised of some cherishable moments of her daughter. As Nysa had turned 17, her doting mother had comprised her solo pictures and the ones with her family in a video and had captioned it as “Almost an adult. All of 17 and part of my heart always. Happy birthday to the most beautiful girl in the world! #allgrownup #lovemybabygurl.” Kajol had beautifully explained her feelings as her little baby girl is growing up with a song, My Little Girl by Tim Mcgraw. And on Yug’s tenth birthday, Kajol had posted a slo-mo video of her son with a ‘miss you’ caption. She had written, ""I know nothing I know everything"- Yug Devgan.
