Jaya Bachchan On Derogatory Comments At Madhuri Dixit And Aishwarya Rai, 'Badi Gandi Zubaan Hai'

Jaya Bachchan is known for her blunt statements and for expressing her opinions without being biased. The veteran actress and the Member of Parliament recently reacted to the derogatory comments used for actresses, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit in the popular show, The Big Bang Theory. She not just gave a fierce reaction but also bashed actor, Kunal Nayyar for the same.

'The Big Bang Theory' controversy

For the unversed, in the first episode of The Big Bang Theory’s second season, actor, Jim Parsons, who played the role of ‘Sheldon Cooper’ calls Aishwarya Rai, 'A poor man’s Madhuri Dixit.' To which, actor, Kunal Nayyar, who portrayed the character of ‘Raj Koothrapalli’ in the show stated:

“Aishwarya Rai is a goddess, by comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leprous prostitute.”

Jaya Bachchan slammed British actor, Kunal Nayyar for his derogatory comments

The derogatory remarks by Kunal Nayyar didn’t go down well with actress, Jaya Bachchan, who stated that the man should be sent to a mental asylum. In an interaction with the Times of India, Jaya slammed the British actor and said:

“Is this man (Kunal Nayyar) insane? Badi gandi zubaan hai. He needs to be sent to a mental asylum. His family should be asked what they think of his comment.”

The show came into controversy after a political analyst, Mithun Vijay Kumar filed a complaint against Netflix for broadcasting the controversial first episode using derogatory remark is used against Madhuri Dixit. In the notice, he asked the streaming platform to remove the first episode as it is defamatory.

In his statement, the activist held Netflix accountable for not ensuring sensitivity and promoting discrimination against women. The statement can be read as:

“It is important to hold companies like Netflix accountable for their actions and to ensure that they are sensitive to the cultural values and sentiments of the communities they serve. I was deeply troubled by the use of a derogatory term in one of the shows on Netflix - Big Bang Theory. This term was used in reference to the acclaimed actress Madhuri Dixit, and it was not only offensive and deeply hurtful but also showed a lack of regard for her dignity.”

For the unversed, the sitcom, The Big Bang Theory premiered in 2007 and concluded in 2019 with 12 seasons.
