Janhvi Kapoor Recalls Trolls Had Said It Was Good Her Mom Was Not Here To See Her Debut Film, Dhadak

Coming from an influential family has its own perks and demerits in the entertainment industry. While on the one hand, it becomes a little easier for you to get the initial opportunities, but on the other hand, there is this constant pressure on you to match the stature of your success to that of your family's. Also, star kids are mostly under tight media scrutiny and are targets of harsh online trolling and mental abuse. As per ETimes, talking about online trolling, Janhvi Kapoor said to a news portal that she has been trolled ever since her debut film, Dhadak had released. On the question of how does she tackle them, she said that she doesn’t allow herself to get bitter or hurt about it. Elaborating further about the kind of trolling she gets, she revealed that when Dhadak had come, she had even received demeaning comments like, ‘Good that your mother is not around to see this’. Janhvi stressed that she would rather see the criticism and trolling as an opportunity to better herself. Instead of paying undue attention to trolls, she would rather live in a bubble where everything is okay and try to improve herself.

Some days ago, in a candid conversation with Anupama Chopra, Janhvi had revealed her family members, namely her sister, Khushi Kapoor and dad, Boney Kapoor's reaction on trolling, especially after Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl had released. Janhvi had said, "My sister is supremely cool and strong, so she is like, 'Just don't give a sh*t, it is fine.' But you have to exercise more sensitivity because there is a bigger thing at play and bigger emotions at play that everyone is dealing with. I don't want to ever come from a place where I am like, 'Oh, sympathise with me, I am being trolled' because everyone does have their journey."

Janhvi had gone on to say that while Khushi was unfazed, Boney was affected a lot from the backlash. She had added, "Yeah, it hurt my father, but he had seen the film (Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl) much before and his belief in my performance and the film was so strong that he was not so affected by the social media situation. That gave me a lot of strength as well." Janhvi also remembered how her father was so worried in the initial days that he would follow her around the house to make sure she was okay. Talking about the same, she had said, "There were a couple of days when he was literally stalking me in my house because he did not know how low I was feeling. But after the initial day or two of feeling bogged down by it, it fuels you. At least, for me." Janhvi had further quipped that if she worries that the criticism will have an effect on her career. She had said that she was very concerned before she had begun shooting for Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, but throughout the making of the film, she had learnt a valuable lesson.

In her words, "I think that fear is always kind of there because you are doing what you are doing for the public and when the resistance is from the public, you kind of question… I had this phase before shooting for Gunjan Saxena in a very massive way. But then, honestly speaking, as cheesy as it sounds, through the shooting of this film and through learning from Gunjan ma'am, I learnt that if you have self-belief and work hard, then you will get where you have to get."
