And then, on March 16, 2018, came a jolt when all his fans felt the ground slipping under their feet. It was the day when Irrfan Khan finally stamped the rumours and had announced that he was suffering from a neuroendocrine tumour or brain tumour. After fighting it hard for a year, Irrfan is back on board with his upcoming sequel of Hindi Medium named, Angrezi Medium. Now, Irrfan has shared that he is taking baby steps and is heading towards healing, along with managing work.
In a note to the media, Irrfan wrote, "Last few months have been on a road to recovery a period to heal to fight the fatigue and face the reel and real world. I am aware of your concern and request to talk to you, share my journey, but I am fathoming it myself inhaling and internalising, taking baby steps to merge my healing with work and trying to experiment the amalgamation of both." He further added, "I am deeply touched by your wishes, your prayers and it means a lot for me and my family. I truly respect the way you respected my journey giving me time and space to heal. Thank you for your patience and the warmth and the love all through this overwhelming journey."
Irrfan ended his note with a quote by Rainer Rilke and wrote, "I feel an urge to share with you something. I live my life in widening rings which spread over earth and sky. I may not ever complete the last one, but that is what I will try. I circle around God's primordial tower, and I circle ten thousand years long; And I still don't know if I'm a falcon, a storm, or an unfinished song." It was on March 16, 2018, Irrfan Khan had tweeted for the first time post the news of his alleged tumour had broken out. He had shared on Twitter, “Sometimes you wake up with a jolt with life-shaking you up. The last fifteen days, my life has been a suspense story. Little had I known that my search for rare stories would make me find a rare disease. I have never given up and have always fought for my choices and always will. My family and friends are with me and we are working it out the best way possible. In trying times, please don't speculate as I will myself share with you my story within a week - ten days when the further investigations come with a conclusive diagnosis. Till then, wish the best for me!”
Of late, Irrfan had shared a post on his social media thanking his fans for immense love they gave him. He had written, “Maybe somewhere in the pursuit of winning, we forget how much it means to be loved. In our vulnerability, we are reminded. As I leave my footprints onto these steps of my life, I want to pause to be grateful for receiving your immense love and support, it soothed me in my process of healing. So I travel back to you, thanking you from the bottom of my heart.”
Earlier, Irrfan had revealed The Times of India about his feelings when he had first entered the hospital for his treatment. The Hindi Medium actor had said, “As I was entering the hospital, drained, exhausted, listless, I hardly realised my hospital was on the opposite side of Lord’s, the stadium. The Mecca of my childhood dream. Amidst the pain, I saw a poster of a smiling Vivian Richards. He had further gone on to thank his fans and supporters, “Throughout my journey, people have been wishing me well, praying for me, from all over the world. People I know, people I don’t even know. They were praying from different places, different time zones, and I feel all their prayers become ONE. One big force, like a force of the current, which got inside me through the end of my spine and has germinated through the crown of my head.”
All throughout this tough time when Irrfan had been fighting hard with tumour, it was his wife Sutapa Sikdar, who has been a constant support for him. The doting and loving wifey had once penned, “My best friend and my partner is a ‘warrior’ he is fighting every obstacle with tremendous grace and beauty. I apologize for not answering calls msgs, but I want all of you to know I am truly humbled indebted forever for the wishes prayers and concern from all over the world. I am grateful to God and my partner for making me a warrior too. She had further penned down, “It wasn’t and isn’t and is not going to be easy, but the hope ignited by the magnitude of family, friends and fans of Irrfan has made me only optimistic and almost sure of the victory. Let’s not waste our precious energies to only know what it is and just pray to make it what it should be. My humble request to all of you is to concentrate on the song of life, to dance of life to victory. My family will soon join in this dance of life.
