How you store the precious trinkets makes a lot of difference in their sheen. Know what well-known jewellery designer Maheep Kapoor has to share on this topic:

As per the current trends, a lot of people are opting for platinum engagement rings. If your engagement ring or wedding band is probably made of platinum too, then it should be cleaned and protected the same way as we clean other fine jewellery. Calvin John, Vice President-Offline Marketing, CaratLane.com has some very wise words for newlywed brides:

“Using a good pre-packaged jewellery cleaner available with any local jeweller is recommended or having it professionally cleaned by one’s jeweller is also suggested. As we do with all precious jewellery, storing with care, we should not allow pieces to touch or scratch each other."

All that keeps ‘glittering’ is gold! Gold is the easiest to maintain, of course, if you are not wearing it every day. Maheep Kapoor suggests a very easy way to maintain your gold jewellery:

“Keep gold jewellery in a satin or velvet-lined box with compartments to prevent the pieces from bumping each other”.

Your local jeweller will tell you easy ways of cleaning your gold ornaments. Here is a simple way: Place your jewellery in water for a couple of minutes. Now take a small amount of toothpaste on a cotton ball and gently apply it on the jewellery piece. Wash them gently. Do not use brush as that will put scratches on your ornaments.

It also helps in reducing the coat of oxide on silver. Nowadays, there are special clothes available in market to store silver jewellery as they help in absorbing the oxide formed on the silver articles.
